Your Favourite TV Relationships
October 20th 2006 09:48
Are you a Buffy/Angel fan forever and ever? Did Pacey and Joey make you melt into a pile of sweet sweet sugary goo back in the day? Will no other couple ever compare to Ross and Rachel?
Or is slash more your thing?
Perhaps I should explain some of these terms. I'll do a general general overview, since some of this stuff is so amazingly in depth I could probably go on for a while. And nobody wants that.
I’ve come to learn what they mean over the last few years, and it’s pretty fascinating to see what kind of categories people put their favourite pairings into, according to the internet culture TV seems to have sparked.
For example, in internet land, homosexual relationships are called ’slash’ pairings, and heterosexual relationships ’het’ pairings. Your absolute, unrivalled, favourite pairing is called an ’OTP’ or ‘One True Pairing.’
Some of the more popular slash pairings I’ve come across on my forays into the net are House and Wilson from House M.D., Sean and Christian from Nip Tuck, and Dean and Sam from Supernatural (which, adding in the incest, is a whole other can of worms). But trust me, anything is possible. ANYTHING. You would be amazed where some people can pull sexual tension. (And slash has launched its own myriad of fiction-based sexual subcultures, but I won’t go into those). Whether or not you’ve ever seen the subtext before, it will be interesting to see if you spot it from here on out (and I bet you’ve commented on the fact that some guys are just a little too close in at least one of your favourite shows before).
Personally, I tend to go for the straight and narrow, fairly predictable pairings without squinting for the lesser obvious subtext. I like my TV watching made easy. But tell me, who melted your screens with their chemistry, or made you throw things at the television in a frustrated, love-induced rage? Do you have a secret TV fetish, or are you content with the pairings you get to see?
Here is my own list of favourites, in no particular order:
1. Ross and Rachel - Friends
2. Jim and Pam - The Office
3. Wesley and Fred - Angel
4. Mal and Inara - Firefly
5. Logan and Veronica - Veronica Mars
6. House and Cameron - House
7. Grissom and Sara - CSI
8. Sydney and Vaughn - Alias
9. Rose and The Doctor - Doctor Who
10. Sawyer and Kate - Lost

But, I was never a Friends fan so Rachel and Ross do nothing for me.

I've become addicted to rewatching all of the old Friends eps again, so Ross and Rachel were on my mind.
But Jim and Pam are so awesome.

In no particular order, simply as they come to mind:
01. Pacey and Joey - Dawson's Creek
02. Aidan and Carrie - Sex and the City
03. House and Cameron - House MD
04. Mal and Inara - Firefly
05. Giles and Buffy - BtVS
06. Elliot and Olivia - L&O
07. Noel and Felicity - Felicity
08. Jayne and Kaylee - Firefly
09. Chandler and Monica - Friends
10. Bobby and Lindsay - The Practice (OH! That was a blast from the past!)
Hee. I see sexual tension in ANY show!

Oh, good choices. The only ones I've never really watched are L&O, Felicity and the Practice, but perhaps I should.
Looking for sexual tension is fun
