Who needs a television when you can watch TV in the comfort of your own eye?

That's right. It sounds very sci-fi laser eye cyborgian, but according to some experts, watching TV through the contact lens in your own eye might only be a mere 10 years away!
Wow, and here I thought iphones and built-in car DVD players were distracting. Who needs those when you can physically feel the explosion, BE Bond in a wild virtual chase while simultaneously driving 90 mph down the clogged freeway? Whoohoo! What? Did you say safety hazard? Heart attack waiting to happen? Naw, you know people are way too smart to try that. I mean, look how well we've all done with the wii? *cue wiimotes crashing through TV screens and sore arms here*
On the other hand, I can't say that I'm not intrigued...It is pretty cool that someone out there is smart enough to make science fiction science fact. And I'm a sucker for tiny high-tech gadgets. Although, now that I think about it, 3D glasses kind of throw me off and make me dizzy at first, I can't imagine what an actual TV IN MY EYE might do. And personally, as much as I'd really love to be in some of my favorite movies, I think I could stand not being able to feel the actual pain of say, climbing Mt. Doom, myself. But maybe that's just me.

Ian Pearson, a 'futurologist' who advises companies on new technologies, said of the TV contact lens: 'You will just pop it into your eye in the morning and take it out at the end of the day.'
Digital tattoos, meanwhile, will pick up on the emotions portrayed by actors in TV shows and create impulses allowing us to feel the same emotions.
This would allow James Bond fans to feel the thrill of outdoing the enemy or sports fans to experience the elation of jubilant players, the report, commissioned by electrical retailer Comet, predicts.
The report said that while the predictions may sound like pie in the sky, most of the know-how already exists.
While the wearer's eyes might seem a bit tinted to onlookers, they wouldn't be able to tell what programme was being viewed, a report on the future of home entertainment states.
It states: 'We could even get to the point where we'll be able to immerse ourselves in a football game, making it feel like you're running alongside your favourite player or berating the ref.'

Let us take this thing a big further --
I agree the whole concept is fascinating and may very well come to fruition, and I agree there could be some very positive uses, but is it not also possible for such devices to be turned against us in a digital age?
Interested parties/owners can tell if unauthorized use of satelite receivers occur now.,Currently vehicles can be tracked by LoJack and GPS. If we allow these things to become reality, I fear that governments can see what we see by reversing the transmissions. Forget the frat party!
How about someone writing a post on these possibilities too?

some years back, some outfit in LA announced they had successfully wired tow people up for FM radio transmission, the willing "guinea pigs" stated that it was groovy, like a rock concert inside your head 24/7...
errr yeah baby....
Orwell once had a much admired imagination, now all his terrifying ideas of Big Brother seem rather tame.
And don't forget the USA company that has finally mathced and copied the delta brain wave!
This is the slow wave experienced in deep REM sleep, or, curiously, by little toddlers wide awake, which makes the brain really receptive to learning.... getting the picture yet?
So, now they can attach any info they like to this delta wave form and broadcast it, even across radio wave transmission frequency, sending information into your tiny mind without you even knowing it...until you wonder why you bought that Coke first thing in the morning, or, voted some right wing facist moron into power....we live in scary times indeed...
cheers
