What gets you hooked?

Imagine you’re flipping through the channels and come across a promo for a brand new show and it’s everything you want in good TV. What would that entail? What is it about a show that immediately catches your attention? Perhaps more importantly, what is it about a show that’ll keep you watching for 5-10 years?
Of course there is the obvious: Good writing, good characters…good actors to play the well-written characters. But for me it’s more than that. For me a show has to have an interesting creative twist. It has to be more about people going about their normal life like everyone else. Don’t get me wrong, those shows are fun to watch every once in a while, especially if they have likable characters, but to get me really hooked, there’s got to be more.
Just look at my must-see tv list, and you’ll see that I’m never going to be a Dawson’s Creek, Gilmore Girls type of girl (not that there’s anything wrong with those who are!
). I just need something intellectually stimulating, something with an air of mystery and danger. I need complicated, flawed, beautiful characters who are willing to put their lives on the line for each other and the greater good. I need more than just a procedural or eye candy. I need wit and humor in the darkest of times. I want to be surprised. I want to laugh and cry and yell at the TV all at the same time. I want more than just an hour when it’s over. I want a bad guy I love to hate and “quotable quotes” that remind me why I love to write. I want to escape real life and buy the DVDs to do it all over again. I want to be the characters.And most of all…I want to believe!
So what is it YOU need and want in good TV?

But to get me hooked or want to watch something, I would like:
- something that makes me think;
- something new and different.
And I do like shows that contain supernatural elements.
One show that really got me hooked recently was Hyde.
