The Inside - Pilot
December 4th 2006 03:15
Last night, the crime show The Inside finally premiered on channel 7. It was late, 11:00pm, but hey, at least it was on at all.
Tim Minear, who is probably best known for his work on Angel, helmed this short-lived TV series, axed by FOX after only 13 episodes. It's very similiar to Angel, with the sinful, nighttime landscape of Los Angeles at the background, the stylistic camera work, the same sharp, witty dialogue, and dark, graphic themes. It also reminded me of the Saw films, and Silence of the Lambs. It stars two actors who have been on Tim Minear shows in the past - Adam Baldwin from Firefly and Angel, and Katie Finneran from Wonderfalls.
Rebecca Locke (played by Rachel Nichols), a rookie FBI agent, moves to L.A. to join the city's Violent Crimes Unit, after a serial killer appears to have murdered one of their team. She has a gift, an ability to understand and track down serial killers, and it is soon uncovered that she herself is the victim of a serial killer, kidnapped when she was 10 years old.
Judging from the pilot episode, the characters seem to be extremely likable, the darkness is compelling and genuinely scary at times, the score is fantastically remiscent of Angel with its haunting violin and edgy rock track, and the writing is very very good. Definitely worth checking out. It airs on channel 7 at 11:00pm Sunday night. Let's hope it stays there long enough to finish the short season.
