Supernatural: The Rapture recap

May 6th 2009 05:01

Catiel visits Dean in a dream to tell him that they need to talk. He has something very important to tell Dean, but he can’t tell him here, because not even Dean’s head is safe. They don’t know who might be listening. When Dean wakes up, he and Sam go to meet Castiel, but find a mess suggesting angel on angel violence instead. They spot Cas lying amongst the rubble and rush over to see if he’s okay. But it’s not Castiel anymore, it’s his human vessel, Jimmy. Cas has been pulled back to Heaven.

Jimmy, hungry and wanting to just go home to his wife and daughter. Unfortunately for him, Sam and Dean realize the demons are going to want to question him just as much as they do. And the demons won’t be nice about it. Jimmy insists that he has no idea what Castiel was going to tell them.

Meanwhile, Sam’s ran out of demon blood and is starting to panic. He calls Ruby to tell her he needs more, and Jimmy slips out of the hotel and back to his family. Sam and Dean catch up to him just as the demons are about to destroy Jimmy and his family. They manage to fight them off, and Jimmy’s wife finally believes him about being called by an angel to do God’s work. Sam and Dean tell Jimmy that he has to leave his family forever if he wants them to remain safe, and Jimmy reluctantly agrees.

As they’re driving away, however, Jimmy gets a call from his wife. It’s not his wife, but a demon, who has now taken over his wife and is holding his daughter hostage. The demon demands that Jimmy come to meet them alone.

Standing outside the warehouse where he’s supposed to meet with the demons, Jimmy desperately calls out to Castiel for help. He shouts to the heavens, reminding Castiel that he promised him his family would be okay if he agreed to be Castiel’s human vessel. When he doesn’t get an answer, Jimmy wearily heads inside to meet his fate.

The demon knows he hasn’t come alone, and Sam and Dean are brought in. A fight breaks out. The demon shoots Jimmy first. One of the other demons walks up to Claire, and she puts her hands on his head.

A white glow begins as suddenly Castiel appears in Jimmy’s daughter, ridding the other people of demons. He reminds Jimmy that angels keep their promises. Meanwhile, Sam has one of the demons down, bloody neck exposed. He can’t fight it. He sucks the blood then knifes the demon. Dean and Castiel witnesses the entire thing. As Dean stares at his brother, Sam turns around and kills the demon in Jimmy’s wife without killing Amelia.

Although his wife may be okay, Jimmy is not. He lies there dying as his daughter/Castiel approaches to tell him that his time is over, that he has done a good job and will now be going home.

Jimmy begs Castiel not to take his daughter, to take him instead, and Castiel finally agrees. Castiel, now back in his normal human vessel, starts to walk out, and Dean asks him what it was he was going to tell him. Castiel tells him that during his time away he was reminded of what was important: “I serve Heaven, I don’t serve man. And I certainly don’t serve you.” He has nothing more to say.

Later on in the Impala, Sam finally can’t stand it anymore, and tells Dean to go ahead and yell at him for the blood-sucking thing already. Dean is uncharacteristically apathetic. He tells his brother that he’s just too tired to be mad. Sam just stares at him. What?

They get a call from Bobby to come over, and when they arrive, Bobby takes them down to the demon-proof panic room. When Sam asks what it is Bobby wanted to show them, Bobby gestures him forward. Sam steps forward, asking what the big demon problem is. Bobby and Dean step out of the room as Bobby answers, “You are. This is for your own good.” They shut and lock the door.

“Uh, guys?” Sam asks, confused. His words are muffled as they shut even the peep hole. “Guys! This isn’t funny! Guys, hey!” Sam pounds on the door. “GUYS!”

CASTIEL: We need to talk.

DEAN: I’m dreaming, aren’t I?

CASTIEL: It’s not safe here. Someplace more private.

DEAN: More private? We’re inside my head.

CASTIEL: Exactly. Someone could be listening.

~*~*~

SAM: Cas, you okay?

JIMMY: Castiel…Not Castiel, it’s me.

SAM: Who’s “me”?

JIMMY: Jimmy. My name is Jimmy.

DEAN: Where the hell is Castiel?

JIMMY: He’s gone.

~*~*~

DEAN: You mind slowin’ down? You’re give me angina.

JIMMY: I’m hungry.

SAM: When’s the last time you ate?
JIMMY: I don’t know, a month?

~*~*~

JIMMY: Bits and pieces. I mean, having an angel inside of you, it’s kinda like being chained to a comet.

DEAN: That doesn’t sound like much fun.

JIMMY: Understatement.

~*~*~

SAM: Dean, back there, that was angel on angel violence. Now I don’t know what’s goin’ on, but it’s big. And we can’t just let the only lead we have just skip out. (Dean shakes his head) What?

DEAN: Remember when our job was helping people? Getting them BACK to their families?

~*~*~

JIMMY: Look, I’m done, okay? With demons, angels, all of it, I just want to go home.

DEAN: We understand.

JIMMY: No, I don’t think that you do understand. I’ve been shot, and stabbed, and healed, and my bodies been dragged all over the earth—by some miracle I’m out and I am done! I’ve given enough okay?

SAM: Look, all we’re saying that until we figure this out? The safest place is with us.

JIMMY: How long?

SAM: We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.

~*~*~

SAM: Dean, would you hurry up?

DEAN: (brushing teeth) Heh, heh, heh.

SAM: I’m sorry, this is funny to you?

DEAN: Mr. Big Bad Prison Guard Jimmy Mcmoot gives you the slip? Yeah, it’s pretty funny. What were you doin’ anyway?

SAM: I was getting a coke.

DEAN: Was it a refreshing coke?

~*~*~

ANNA: (appears in the backseat) Hey guys.

DEAN: WHOA! (nearly drives off the road) Ever try callin’ ahead?

ANNA: I like the element of surprise.

DEAN: You look terrific.

ANNA: Uh, yeah, not the most appropriate time, Dean. You let Jimmy get away?

DEAN: Talk to Ginormo.

ANNA: Sam, you seem…different.

SAM: Me? I don’t know, (laughs) a haircut?

ANNA: That’s not what I’m talking about.

~*~*~

JIMMY: Have faith.

~*~*~

JIMMY: Promise my family will be okay and I’ll do it…(listens) Then, yes.

~*~*~

CASTIEL: I am not your father.

~*~*~

SAM: (on phone) Where the hell are you Ruby? This isn’t funny anymore. I’m all out. Stop whatever you’re doing, call me…I need more.

~*~*~

CLAIRE: Daddy, aren’t you gonna say grace?

JIMMY: No honey, I don’t think that I am.

CLAIRE: Why are you crying?

JIMMY: Because I’m happy.

~*~*~

ROGER: So really, what happened?

JIMMY: Honestly? The worst year of my life and you wouldn’t believe a word of it, but it’s all okay now. I swear.

ROGER: Actually, no it’s not.

JIMMY: What do you mean?

ROGER: I mean I’m gonna gut your daughter while you watch. (eyes go black)

~*~*~

JIMMY: You were right.

DEAN: I’m sorry we were.

~*~*~

JIMMY: How long? And don’t give me that ‘we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it’ crap.

SAM: Don’t you get it? Forever. Demons’ll never stop, you can NEVER be with your family. So you either get as far away from them as possible, or you put a bullet in your head. And that’s how you keep your family safe, but there’s no getting out, and there’s no going home.

DEAN: Well, don’t sugar-coat it, Sam.

~*~*~

AMELIA: So, I pretty much owe you the biggest apology ever.

~*~*~

JIMMY: These boys are gonna get you a car, don’t ask me how.

~*~*~

DEAN: What the hell happened back there?

SAM: What?

DEAN: You practically fainted trying to gank a demon.

SAM: Okay, I didn’t faint, I got a little dizzy.

DEAN: Well you can call it whatever you want, the point is you used to be strong enough to kill Alastair, and now you can’t even kill Stunt Demon #3?

SAM: What do you want me to say about it, Dean?

DEAN: Well for starters, what’s goin’ on with your mojo? I mean, it’s yo-yoing over the place. I’m not trying to pick a fight here, okay, I just—you’re scaring me, man.

SAM: I’m scaring myself.

~*~*~

SAM: There’s no way they’re expecting him to come alone, Dean. You know this is probably a trap.

DEAN: Yeah I know. That’s why I have a plan.

~*~*~

JIMMY: (shouting at the sky at Castiel) You promised my family would be okay, you promised you were gonna take care of them! I GAVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU ASKED ME TO GIVE—I GAVE YOU MORE, THIS IS THE THANKS I GET? This is what you do? You’re Heaven?! HELP ME, PLEASE! You PROMISED Cas! Just help me!

~*~*~

SAM: Nice plan, Dean.

DEAN: Yeah well, nobody bats a thousand.

~*~*~

DEMON: Now for the punch line: Everybody dies.

~*~*~

CASTIEL: (as Claire)Of course we keep our promises. Of course we have our gratitude. You served us well, you’re work is done. It’s time to go home now, you’re real home. You’ll rest forever in the fields of the Lord. Rest now, Jimmy.

JIMMY: (dying) No, Claire…

CASTIEL: She’s with me now. She’s chosen, it’s in her blood, as it was in yours.

JIMMY: Please, Castiel, just take me—take me, please.

CASTIEL: I want to make sure you understand. You won’t die, or age. This last year’s painful for you? Picture a hundred, a thousand more like it.
JIMMY: It doesn’t matter, you take me—Take me!

CASTIEL: As you wish.

~*~*~

DEAN: Cas, wait up. What were you gonna tell me?

CASTIEL: I learned my lesson while I was away, Dean. I serve Heaven, I don’t serve man. And I certainly don’t serve you.

~*~*~

SAM: Alright, let’s hear it.

DEAN: What?

SAM: Drop the bomb, man, you saw what I did. Come on, stop the car, take a swing.

DEAN: I’m not gonna take a swing.

SAM: Well then scream, chew me out.

DEAN: I’m not mad, Sam.

SAM: Come on, you’re not mad?

DEAN: No.

SAM: Right. At least let me explain myself.

DEAN: Don’t. I don’t care.

SAM: You don’t care?

DEAN: What do you want me to say, that I’m disappointed? Yeah, I am. But mostly I’m just tired, man…I’m done. I am just done.

~*~*~

SAM: (on phone) What’s goin’ on?

BOBBY: The Apocalypse, genius.

~*~*~

SAM: So uh, what’s the big demon problem?

BOBBY: You are. This is for your own good.

(they shut the door)

SAM: Uh, guys? Guys! This isn’t funny! Guys, hey! GUYS!

Whoa, just--whoa. First off, it was great to see Castiel/Jimmy's backstory, and I'm so glad Cas decided to take back the same human vessel, because I would have been very sad to see Misha Collins go! I'm very excited that he's signed on to be a series regular next season. On another note, poor Sam! Poor Dean! I just don't even know what to say, except , and thank you Bobby! After seeing the promo for the next two weeks, I'm scared for this big end of the year fight. Supernatural's been really good at tying it up and giving us a happy ending at the end of the year despite all the war and sadness, so I'm really hoping it's the same for this year!
