Supernatural: Jus In Bello
February 22nd 2008 05:20
Sam and Dean track Bela to a hotel room, where they find…a couple of wigs but that’s about it. The phone rings. Guess who? Dean asks her where she is and Bela informs him that she’s already long gone. She also lets them know that they won’t be going after her any time soon because they’re about to be quite occupied…
Suddenly the door busts open and cops swarm in to arrest Sam and Dean. They’re led by our old friend Agent Hendrickson. It’s a great moment for him. A very bad one for Sam and Dean.
Hendrickson goes back to the small town jail, lets free the drunk and disorderly prisoner, and tells the sheriff he’s brining in two of the most dangerous fugitives he’s ever been after. Sam and Dean are brought in and they assure the secretary, Nancy, who is nervously fingering a rosary that they aren’t the ones she should be afraid of.
Once they’re shoved into the cell chained together, Sam and Dean shuffle around bumping into each other until they’re able to sit down. How are they going to get out of this one? Neither of them has any idea.
Hendrickson calls the deputy director, Stephen, and tells him about Sam and Dean. Stephen says he’s sending a chopper and that he’s on his way there himself. He’s not about to let Hendrickson let the Winchesters go yet again.
Hendrickson enjoys egging Dean on while Sam sits silent in the corner of the cell. Hendrickson can’t decide whether he’s going to have steak or lobster in celebration of catching them. Dean tells the FBI Agent that he shouldn’t be celebrating just yet.
Stephen arrives, hands Hendrickson a whole file of paperwork that he’s expecting to be done now, and goes to talk to the prisoners himself. He walks down to the cell, smirks, quite proud that he has Sam and Dean Winchester, and suddenly—BAM! Stephen pulls out a gun and shoots Dean!
Sam grabs the gun, twisting it around as Stephen fires again. They struggle as Sam quickly starts in on the Latin. The demon shows itself in Stephen’s black eyes and tells Sam that he’s too late. He’s already called them and they’re on their way. The demon exits through the vent in the ceiling just as Hendrickson and the Sherriff and his deputies come running.
They order Sam to put down the gun, and Sam quickly tells him that he didn’t shoot the deputy director! He tells them to look, that there’s no gunshot, and reluctantly, they do. There isn’t. But Dean is still shot. The bullet went through his shoulder—thankfully. He’ll live…for now at least.
Sam does his best to help his brother with the bullet wound as one of the Sheriff’s deputies goes outside to see what’s going on with the helicopter. He’s met with a bunch of dead cops, their throats all slit. Confused and afraid, he starts to radio back inside. Suddenly a flash of fire explodes and the helicopter goes up in flames. The deputy starts to step back to get inside…But a demon shows up and slits hit throat instead.
Inside, everyone is frantically trying to figure out what’s going on. Nancy rushes to the phone. It, her computer, cell phone, radio, everything is out. The Sheriff and his remaining deputy are frantically running around trying to get their guns together, and Hendrickson finally tells them all to stop. He tells them to calmly go make sure the doors and windows are locked and to try and get a hold of themselves and act like professionals. The Sheriff and his deputy look at each other, nod, then go off to do as told.
Hendrickson asks Sam and Dean what’s supposed to happen next in their plan. They assure him that this is not their plan. When he asks what’s going on, Hendrickson interrupts with, “and don’t tell me this has something to do with demons.” He also tells Dean he better get a good look at Sam because he’s never going to see his brother again.
Sam and Dean notice Nancy hovering around the corner after Hendrickson leaves, and Sam asks her if he could have a towel to help stay the blood from his brother’s gunshot wound. She stares at him a moment, then leaves. Dean tells Sam it was a good try, and then Nancy returns with a towel. She approaches the cell nervously as Sam coaxes her gently, telling her that it’s okay. When she reaches in to give him the towel he grabs her arm and she starts screaming. The deputy shows up, and Sam lets her go quickly. The cop warns him if they try something like that again they’re going to get shot, and not in the arm. Dean nudges Sam and asks him what that was all about and Sam produces the rosary.
The Sheriff shows up and unlocks the cell telling them, “It’s time to go boys.” With all the luck they’ve been having with possessions lately, Sam and Dean back up. Dean tells him they’re fine right where they are, and suddenly Hendrickson shows up asking the Sheriff what he thinks he’s doing.
The Sheriff tells him there’s a SWAT facility in Boulder they’re going to go to, and Hendrickson tells him they’re not going anywhere. When the Sheriff starts to argue, Hendrickson pulls out a gun and shoots him.
Sam and Dean grab Hendrickson and shove him into the toilet, where the rosary lies. Sam starts in on the Latin, and with that and the help of the holy water, the demon is forced to leave. Hendrickson falls to the floor and when Nancy asks if he’s dead, he suddenly gasps and sits up.
Hendrickson finally knows the truth. After trying to get over the fact that he was possessed, that demons are real, he unlocks Sam and Dean’s chains.
Sam starts to spray paint devils traps around in front of the windows and doors as Nancy tends to Dean’s bullet wound. Hendrickson and the deputy come in with guns and Dean tells him it’s only going to annoy their enemy. He tells them they need lots and lots of salt. Both the FBI Agent and cop just look at him like he’s crazy. Nancy tells him they have road salt in the store room. Dean tells them to put it at every window and door.
Dean asks Nancy how she’s holding up, and she tells him how she used to come home from church and talk about the devil and her parents would just tell her to stop being so literal. “I guess I showed them, huh?”
Dean asks where his car is because he needs to get something out of his trunk. He goes out to grab weapons that will actually work, and suddenly a wind comes up. He looks up and finds lights all around flickering and suddenly an army of black smoke rushes his way.
Dean gets inside, slams the door shut and yells, “They’re coming!” Everyone stands there as the entire building is bombarded by black smoke. They literally black out the windows, then are suddenly gone.
Dean pulls out necklaces and tosses them to everyone, explaining that they’ll keep them from being possessed. When Nancy asks, “What about you and Sam?” Dean and Sam pull their shirts aside and show them their tattoos. (Wonder when did they got those?)
The cop goes to the window to have a look at the group of people who’ve turned up. He breaks the salt line against the window.
Dean and Hendrickson start loading up their salt bullets, and Hendrickson admits that his job is boring compared to Sam and Dean’s. Dean informs him that yes, demons are real…as are ghosts, changelings, and scary clowns that eat people. Dean tells, “But if it makes you feel better, Bigfoot’s a hoax.” Hendrickson assures him that it doesn’t. After all that’s happened, Hendrickson realizes that he’s right where Dean is and that they’re on the right side after all. Who would have thought?
There’s a crash of glass and Dean and Hendrickson regroup with the others to find Ruby standing under the window. She looks at them. “Well, are you going to let me out?” Sam bend down and scrapes off a part of the spray paint to let her out. She smirks. “And they say chivalry’s dead.”
When Dean asks her how many there are out there, she says about 30. When he asks what’s going on, Ruby looks at Sam. “You didn’t tell Dean?” She tells Dean about the demon who’s out to get Sam. A girl named Lilith. Dean can’t believe Sam hasn’t told him about this.
Ruby asks where The Colt is, and Sam and Dean don’t answer. She can’t believe they let it get stolen! Ruby sighs, and says the only way they’re going to get out is to do a spell that she knows—one that requires someone of virtue. The only problem is that it’ll kill every demon in a mile radius, including her.
When Ruby tells Dean that they need a virgin, he laughs. Well, so much for…his gaze lands on Nancy. “No way.” Nancy quickly tells him that “it’s a choice!” Right away Dean tells Ruby that they’re not going to do her plan. Nancy asks what she has to do, and Ruby tells her to hold still….while she cuts out her heart.
Dean protests automatically once again, as does Hendrickson, and Ruby turns to Sam. Dean looks as his brother for agreement, and when he doesn’t get it, is shocked. Ruby tells Sam, “You know I’m right.”
Dean tells everyone to just hold on and heads for the door. “Sam I need to talk to you.” In the hallway, Dean asks him what he thinks he’s doing. Sam reluctantly points out that there’s 30 people out there they could save if they go through with Ruby’s plan. Dean argues that they’re not killing any innocent virgins!
When Sam asks what else they’re going to do, Dean tells him he has a plan. He’s not saying it’s going to work but…he thinks they should open the doors. And fight. Ruby tells them their both crazy. She says she’s leaving. She was willing to kill herself for them to win, but she’s not sticking around to watch them lose.
They break the symbols and salt lines and wait.
Demons swarm the jail and Dean, Sam, and Hendrickson fight. Punches and holy water fly until just when it looks like Dean and Sam are trapped, Dean yells, “Hendrickson, now!”
Hendrickson pushes the button to a tape recorder and Sam’s voice fills the loudspeakers. All the demons go crazy as they’re exorcised en masse. Sam and Dean let out a breath and fall to the floor. The plan worked!
The people are saved and Hendrickson tells them that he’s going to kill them. As far as he’s concerned, Sam and Dean Winchester died in the fire that took the helicopter. “Rest in piece guys.” He shakes their hands and Sam and Dean leave as he picks up the phone to call in their deaths.
A little girl arrives at the police station asking for “Two boys. One’s really tall and one’s really cute?” Nancy laughs and asks her what her name is.
“Lilith.”
Everyone looks up, Hendrickson starts forward, but suddenly Lilith’s eyes turn white, she holds up her hand, and in a flash (literally) everyone is dead.
Back at their hotel, Dean and Sam open the door to Ruby, who tells them to turn on the news. They find out that everyone, including the deputy, Hendrickson, and Nancy, were killed minutes after they left.
Ruby tosses them two pouches of something she says will keep Lilith off their tracks. She then growls at them that it turns out their plan was actually the one with the body count.
“So next time? We go with my plan.”
Sam and Dean are both devastated with the outcome and wearily take the pouches silently as Ruby slams the door behind her on the way out…
