Naomi goes on a date and Sam takes it out on Dell. Pete shows up at Addison’s house a little bit drunk, and she tells him to go away.

A woman named Angie comes to Addison and Naomi for help. She wants to know if she’s dying from a terminal disease so she can decide if she wants to have a baby or not. Addison’s choice of baby name? “Carson. It works for a boy or a girl.” After Angie finds out that she isn’t showing symptoms, but does have the disease, she goes home and leaves her husband, who she loves very much by the way. Addison and Naomi try to convince her she needs to tell him the truth. “Just because you’re sick doesn’t mean you don’t get to live your life.” Both husband and wife come back to them and tell them they decide they want to have a baby after all.

A girl comes in with a spiral fracture and Cooper can’t help from calling social services. Her mother didn’t beat her, it turns out she has MS and had fallen and grabbed her daughter’s arm. Social Services works fast to get a hearing and Dell points out that the girl always wears longs sleeves, even when it’s hot out…

Outside the hearing, Tess admits that her mother does hit her every once in a while. In the hearing, Cooper tells everyone, “You don’t have to take that. Because once you let yourself shut down like that, you’re not a kid anymore.” The judge decides to take Tess away from her mother, and Cooper feels bad about it, but knows it’s the right thing to do. Sam admits that he didn’t see it. He should have, but he didn’t want to since he’s known Tess and her mother for so long.

Charlotte, comes to Pete for help because she can’t sleep and ends up sticking around the office bugging everyone, emptying their refrigerator, complaining. After Pete tries everything he can think of and still can’t get her to sleep, he begs Violet to see her. Violet decides nobody ever nurtured Charlotte, so she tells Pete he’s got to. He begrudgingly tries to. Charlotte admits her mother didn’t believe in that kind of thing. He finally gets her to go to sleep, and everyone agrees that asleep Charlotte almost looks harmless! Almost.

Violet admits she doesn’t want to have kids, and Pete says he was married once and doesn’t plan to go down that route again…

Later on everyone hangs out by the beach house and the girls discuss what they’d be doing right now if they knew they were dying.

Violet: I’d be doing what I’m doing right now.

Naomi: I’d be on a plane. To Somewhere spectacular with Maya.

Addison: I…I don’t know.

*Naomi looks at Pete who’s standing behind them looking out at the ocean*

Naomi: Liar.

Addison thinks about this a moment, then finally goes over and kisses Pete, telling him she doesn’t just want fun. She wants more. When Pete asks what that’s supposed to mean, she just leaves smiling.

Poor Addison tries to have a party with her new coworkers, and no one RSVPs. Except for Dell suddenly when she brings it up. A very nervous Sam goes on TV and tells people that he cares about his patients, and when one man is self-conscious about being bald, Sam reminds him that many important people are bald. Like the Arm & Hammer guy. This, of course, is what he’s teased about throughout the rest of the episode, as the Arm & Hammer “bald guy” is really just an arm and a hammer.

Violet’s ex-boyfriend’s new wife comes in to see Naomi, and Violet goes crazy trying to find out why she’s there. Her stalker-ish obsession with her ex-boyfriend is actually just kind of annoying. I’m warming up to the rest of the characters, but I’m still having some problems liking Violet. Okay, I get it that she’s a psychologist who can help everyone else with their problems of letting go or finding out what they want but *insert shocking revelation here* she can’t help herself. But I’m just getting a little tired of her constant nervous obsession with a man we’ve never even met. Oh well, that’s her character hook, so I guess I’ll just have to get used to it. I do think it’s really cute that Cooper is in love with her though.

Speaking of Cooper, he deals with a lovesick kid and makes a deal that he’ll tell Violet how he feels if the boy will tell who he loves how he feels. He can’t go through with it thought, and the kid ends up getting beat up by his friend who, as it turns out, was another boy.

Addison and Sam try to help a young mother who is on the run from the hospital because she believes they’re trying to kill her. The woman’s mother shows up, along with Dr. Charlotte King (The Oceanside Wellness Group’s nemesis), and they show Addison the girl’s charts. Apparently she’s been starving herself. Addison is sadly disappointed, but Sam sticks to his beliefs that they’re different than other places. Together everyone finds out that the woman wasn’t lying after all, she really is sick. The mother apologizes, and everyone decides to Addison’s party after all.

Favorite quote of the week:

Sam: It really is just an arm and a hammer.

Naomi: Let it go.

Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice

October 5th 2007 05:39

OK, let’s start out with the original. This week’s episode: Love/Addiction. Meredith tries to avoid her half sister Lexie, Christina tries to avoid Mama Burke, and Izzie tries to get George to avoid telling Callie that their marriage is over.

In the mean time, a meth lab explodes, a baby has a stroke, Alex get’s punched out by the baby’s father (who then goes on the run with the baby), and Christina tries to use her wedding gifts as bargaining chips.

This week’s memorable moments?

1. Alex letting Bailey take out her frustration on him. (haha, great scene)
2. Derek and Sloan as almost-friends again.
3. Christina ordering Lexie away for Meredith because Lexie is Christina’s intern.
4. Izzie and George have a moment…or two.
5. Callie knows something’s up but asks George not to talk about “It” tonight.

Alright, moving on to the spinoff, Private Practice.

When I first saw the Grey’s Anatomy episodes trying to ease us into the California feel I didn’t know if I was going to like it or not. After the premiere I still wasn’t quite sure, granted I did like Dr. Pete a lot, and I’m sure it had nothing to do with my missing The Nine...OK, so maybe it did.

Anyway, first episode: They spend a lot of time having to call for ambulances to get their patients to hospitals and Addison delivers a baby. There’s a lot more, but by now I’m sure you’ve already seen the episode, so I won’t spend forever trying to recap it for you.

Episode two: By the end of this episode I started to warm up to the other character’s more. This time Addison and Co. find out that two babies were switched at the hospital and one of them might only have five years to live. Sad (but good) episode—I mean what kind of person could purposely switch their own child? Oh yes, and a grandmother is poisoning her son, and inadvertently grandson, with mushrooms because it’s the only way she thinks he’ll stop drinking. Now that’s one effective quitting technique if I ever heard one.

All in all, a good week for Grey’s fans. To watch both episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice visit abc.com.
