Nip Tuck - Season 3

Deliciously twisted.
That’s Nip Tuck in a nutshell. Channel 9 have been holding back on super-hyped season 3 for nigh on a year now, a season that is even more outrageous, explicit and dark than the last two seasons combined.
It deals with the mystery of the Carver, a serial rapist introduced in season 2, whose adage is “Beauty is a curse on the world.” He assaults his beautiful victims before disfiguring their faces. Sean McNamara and Christian Troy, the two top-notch plastic surgeons on whom the series is centred, have been performing plastic surgery on the victims to fix this damage, putting them in serious danger.
Sean is also dealing with his separation from his estranged wife Julia, and Christian has rejected his womanising ways (to an extent) to become involved with Kimber, a model turned successful porn producer, and a female detective named Kit (though only temporarily). Suspicion is briefly cast on Christian in the role of the Carver, as the season opens on his reaction to his own gruesome, horrifyingly explicit rape, and there is no evidence left of the crime. And Matt, Sean and Julia’s gullible teenage son, is dragged into his typical (annoying) B-plot story arc, this time a Neo-Nazi girlfriend who convinces him to convert to her dark ways.
Instead of single episode arcs, this season of Nip Tuck focuses far more on creating its complicated season long mystery, which doesn’t always work- though it’s a pretty decent effort. The identity of the Carver is made obvious from the first episode onward, though there is still a nice surprise twist at the end.
The season is fairly predictable, which is disappointing when you know what this show is truly capable of. However, it still reigns as one of the most sexy, gruesome, twisted programs on TV, and for that alone, it’s worth some serious praising.
