Moonlight: Click

May 3rd 2008 05:15

Mick gets taken for a ride (literally--a car ride that is) by a hot young starlet running from the paparazzi. The actress, Tierney Taylor, maneuvers her car expertly the wrong way down a 1-way street with Mick muttering to himself, “I can’t die.”

“What?” Tierney yells over the sound of the engine.

“Nothing.”

Meanwhile, Beth’s having lunch outside with Talbot (the ADA she was kidnapped with last week), and he admits that he can’t talk about what they went through with anyone else. “I still don’t understand how Mick and that other guy got us out of there.” Beth just shrugs and their conversation is interrupted as Tierney arrives to a mass of flash photography.

Beth looks up and is surprised to see Mick step out of the car too. He’s decided he doesn’t have to live in hiding just because he’s a vampire. Mick has decided to branch out and use his PI vampire skills for more than his usual jobs. At least for now anyway.

Pictures of Mick and Tierney are taken throughout their lunch where she says she’s used to it. Except it’s gotten a lot worse than usual. The paparazzi was waiting outside her house like they knew her schedule even when Mick sent out fake ones to everyone. He tells her it must be someone close to her, her boyfriend perhaps? Tierney insists her boyfriend wouldn’t do that, even if he is trying to promote his new band, she has to have at least a few people in her life she can trust. Mick points out that’s why he hired her, to tell her who to trust.

Their conversation is interrupted by Tierney’s manager, Jason, who tells Mick that Tierney’s the whole reason for her new movie “Lusitania”. They continue to talk but Mick is distracted as he notices Beth sitting at a nearby table…with Talbot.

After Tierney finishes eating and starts to leave, Beth approaches Mick. “Hot lunch date?”

“Very hot. And sunny, definitely too much sun.” He tries to shade himself with his hand as he adds, “It’s not a date.”

Beth asks her if he’s actually working for Tierney Taylor, and Mick asks her what she knows about the actress. Oh only what everyone else knows: her favorite color, everybody she’s ever dated, what she had for dinner last night…

Mick finally says, “Look I’ve been meaning to call you about the other night.”

“The other night,” Beth answers, whispering, “When you kissed me.”

“So how do you want to do this?”

“It’s called dating.”

“Right. We go out, get to know each other—”

“You’ve known me since I was four.”

“Okay, it’s weird when you say it like that.”

They both grin as Tierney shows up and Mick has to whisk her away from the paparazzi, leaving Beth behind.

Mick shows up at Josef’s, where his friend asks him if he had a good lunch.

“What are you following me?”

“Not me.” Josef flips his computer around to show a picture of Mick’s lunch date with the headline “TIERNEY’S NEW…HOTTIE!” Amused, Josef tells him that it’s a good picture.

“You should put it on your Facebook page.”

Mick looks at him suspiciously. “You’ve seen my Facebook page?”

“Of course I’ve seen your Facebook page.”

“Huh….Did you like it?”

“Yeah Though I’m surprised Mr. Skulk in the shadows is suddenly all over the internet.”

Mick tells him that he realized if he wanted to expand his business, he was going to have to put himself out there. Josef starts to mention Tierney and Mick quickly assures him that her celebrity won’t be endangering his exposure. Joking he adds, “Don’t worry, Dad, I’ll be careful.”

“Don’t call me that.”

“Well you did turn me.”

“Returned you. RE-turned. And you were gonna become a vampire again anyway, and I’m not your sire.”

“Kind of my step-sire…”

“No.” Josef gets up and tells Mick that Tierney kind of reminds him of Gene Harlow. Mick is shocked, “You went out with Gene Harlow?”

“I mostly stayed in with Gene Harlow.”

(Love those two! Haha)

Josef goes on to tell Mick that if he was going to give him advice, which he’s not of course, he’d say to go with it, have fun. Mick’s finally decided to join the 21st Century!

Meanwhile, over at Buzz Wire, Beth has a new boss. And one who doesn’t care if the stories are true, he wants a good headline and he wants the story first. Since Beth is in with Mick (a.k.a. “Tierney’s new hottie”), he expects her to go to a party that night and come back with a major scoop. Good luck!

Mick arrives at the dock where a light up sigh signifying the “Lusitania” leads up to the large ship decorated with lights.

Mick (VO): The last time I saw The Gray Ghost was December 1942. I was with my regiment sailing from New York to England, scared to death. Off the coast of Scotland we got hit by a 92 foot wave, almost capsized. Some guy wrote a book about it. Called it The Poseidon Adventure. He exaggerated things a bit, but I’d like to think the Gene Hackman character was based on me.”

Mick survey’s the scene and finally gets fed up with one particular paparazzo. He tells him to back off, and the man says he’s been hit by people way more famous than him. Tierney’s his ride to the big time. Mick grabs him, and he dares him to hit him. He’d like to see how much money he could squeeze out of Mick. Mick laughs and shoves him away. “I don’t have time for trash like you.”

The guy snaps a bunch of pictures of Mick as he heads up to the party.

Inside, Tierney tells him that this was supposed to be a paparazzi-free night, and Mick just tells her she doesn’t pay him to party. She argues, “I don’t pay you to be my bodyguard either. Why don’t you just think of it as a night off?” Mick is still surveying the room with a PI’s eye and notices Tierney’s boyfriend, Scott, fidgeting at the bar.

Tierney tells him he should go talk to his friend, and Mick turns to see Beth at a table full of the movie bigwigs. He’s surprised to see her and when Tierney asks who Beth is, Mick answers, “I think we’re dating.”

“You think?”

“Well it’s complicated.”

“Can you be yourself around her?”

“Mostly, yeah.”

“Well then uncomplicated it.” Tierney walks off with Scott and Mick realizes she’s right. He walks over to Beth.

Outside on the deck, Beth tells Mick about the investors and producers, and how boring it was talking to them. She didn’t really learn anything new. She then asks him where a vampire would take a girl for a date. She’s guessing not a lot of restaurants as he probably gets bored watching a woman eat.

“Actually…I exactly haven’t really been in a romantic relationship with a human since I became a vampire.”

“What?” Beth is shocked. “You mean you haven’t…”

“Not with a human.”

“Wow.”

“It’s not like you’ve slept with a vampire,” Mick defends himself.

“Maybe once in college, but I was really drunk.” She grins.

“Right.”

Slowly they start to lean forward…closer…

“What else have you been doing behind my back?”

The moment is broken and Mick and Beth look up to see Tierney arguing with Scott. He tells her he’s not the one keeping secrets. Mick tells Beth he’ll see her back inside and goes over to make sure Tierney is okay. She insists that he is that he doesn’t need to follow her back to her room. She smiles at him. “You really are very nice.”

Inside Mick finds Beth at the bar and apologizes. She tells him it’s not a problem, but that she has to get back to Buzz Wire to make up a story and suddenly Mick’s super sensitive ears picks up on something. “Did you hear that?”

He rushes outside to find everyone looking overboard at…Tierney floating in the water below. Without hesitating, Mick jumps over.

“Mick!” Beth calls after him as he splashes into the water below.

Unfortunately he was too late. The next thing we see is Tierney being zipped into a body bag with the paparazzi going crazy. Mick tells one particularly nosey guy to have some respect, and when the guy just goes on about why he should be respecting “some drunk actress who fell overboard,” Mick grabs his phone camera and throws it into the crowd. “You wanna go for a swim to?” The guy walks off.

Beth catches up to Mick and asks if Tierney was drunk. No she wasn’t, he would have smelled it on her…

In Tierney’s room Beth tries to convince Mick that this wasn’t his fault. He argues that she trusted him and now she’s dead. He searches the room, opening a display case with an old pinkish anchor. He still smells the blood on it. Tierney was murdered.

Talbot shows up. “Well, well, well, what a surprise.”

Beth wants to know what he’s doing there and Mick answers for him. Talbot’s there making sure the police don’t screw up another one of the DA’s cases. Talbot orders them out and Mick nods to the display case. Talbot doesn’t see anything so great about it.

“That anchor’s your murder weapon,” Mick tosses over his shoulder on the way out.

Frowning Talbot tells the guy with him to bag it.

Over at Buzz Wire, Beth argues over posting the story with her new boss. Tierney wasn’t drunk and this might be a murder. Her boss’s eyes light up. “This would go so great with murder. I’m thinkin’ a splash page.” He shows her a picture of Tierney’s body and Beth asks where he got it.

“Dean Foster. And he’s got more where that came from.”

Mick shows up in the morgue, where Guierrmo welcomes him back into the land of the undead. Mick isn’t there for the new stock of A-positive, he’s here to look at Tierney’s body. She was definitely hit on the head with the anchor. Mick asks him where he got it and Guierrmo tells him that Talbot brought it in.

(Oh yeah, Guierrmo sleeps in the morgue and often visits the movie theater for the great cold temp. He doesn’t mind the smell of popcorn.)

Beth runs into Mick coming out of the morgue, and shows him the picture her new boss bought off of paparazzo Dean Foster. Mick’s going to talk to Tierney’s boyfriend, Scott, Beth’s been sent to talk to her producer.

Mick: Listen, once you’re done, you want to—wanna come by and, share some information?

Beth: I’d like that.

They walk outside to a swarm of waiting paparazzi and Mick only half jokes, “Go, save yourself.”

Beth runs off and Mick quickly sneaks around the corner and leaps onto the roof. Oh the perks of being a vampire! He watches the paparazzi photographers scamper off into the alley and turns when the door to the roof opens.

Two young photographers step out and Mick takes off his glasses. “Hey, you little punk give me that camera.” When the kid starts to argue, Mick vamps out, causing the kids to do so as well as they pull back. Mick looks at them, disgusted. “You should be ashamed of yourselves making a living like this. Talk about blood-suckers.” They argue that it’s perfect as they work mostly at night and can go where other photographers can’t.

Mick talks to them a while then asks if they can keep their new friends off his back. They say they’d love to help and all, but well, he’s the new hot story and they still have jobs to do. Great

Beth talks to Tierney’s producer, who tells her Tierney was the movie. The studio would never let him recast, so the movie’s been shut down.

Mick talks to Scott, who admits to being upset with Tierney, but he didn’t kill her. He found out she paid Dean $50,000 to keep some photographs off the market. He didn’t want to believe that she was cheating on him, but what else could it be? He even suspected it might be Mick. Mick assures him that there was nothing going on with him and Tierney.

Beth steps out of her car, and Mick is suddenly there. She asks him what he’s doing, and he says he’s trying to beat the paparazzi. He’s guessing he has about ten minutes--*sound of squealing tires* “Or less.”

Mick swings around, and suddenly shoves Beth out of the way right before the car hits him full force!

“Mick!” Beth rushes to help him up as the car spins away.

A shadowy figure snaps pictures of the entire thing…

Back in Mick’s apartment, he asks her if she’s sure she’s okay and she says that she is. She also got a partial plate number on the car. They argue about who the car was really after, and Mick finally says maybe they were after both of them. They tell each other what they found out from the boyfriend and the producer, and argue about Emo bands now vs. then. (LoL)

Beth gets up to leave and Mick asks where she’s going. Um, home? She can’t go out there, the place is surrounded by Paparazzi! Okay…so…? Mick decides she should stay there and Beth grins. They’ve suddenly gone from dating to speed dating.

Mick quickly clarifies, “No I don’t mean with me, with me, I just—I can’t drive you, and my couch is comfortable and—besides, I sleep in my freezer upstairs.”

“Okay, well, better safe than sorry.”

“Okay.” He quickly starts to head upstairs, then stops. “And you know, I mean if you need anything I’m uh, right upstairs, anyway.”

“In your freezer.”

“Yeah.”

Beth nods. “Sweet dreams.”

“You too,” Mick says hastily and heads back upstairs.

Beth lets out an exasperated noise and heads for the couch.

The next day, Mick goes to visit Logan, who can’t believe that Tierney spent $1,000 a month on cat grooming. Logan also found out that Scott was telling the truth about Tierney paying off Dean, and that her business manager, who writes all of Tierney’s checks, was also writing himself a $20,000 check a month from her personal account.

Back at the DA’s office, Beth tries to work a deal with Talbot. She might be able to help him prove that Dean was the same guy who tried to kill her and killed Tierney. Talbot tells her that they know about Dean Foster. He’s stalked others before. They haven’t been able to find him yet.

Mick visits Tierney’s manager, and when he confronts the man about the checks he was writing to himself, he tells Mick that Tierney Taylor wasn’t her real name. He goes on toe explain that her father was a drunk. He hit her and her mother and one day, Tierney’s mom just couldn’t take it anymore.

“She killed him.”

“When she got out of jail, she was an emotional wreck.” Tierney bought her mom a house, hired a staff, she would have done everything to keep her mom out of the limelight, but somehow Dean Foster found out. “The despicable freak.” So they had to find a way to pay him off. She was also shelling out her own money for the movie. Abbot had said he’d repay her, but hadn’t yet. He tells Mick that it wasn’t the studios who shut down the movie, it was all Abbot.

Mick calls to tell Beth it’s a no go on the business manager. He asks her to see what she can dig up on Abbot. Beth turns to her computer and finds an e-mail from Dean Foster. She opens it to find pictures of Mick getting hit by the car, then getting up and walking away unscathed.

Dean calls her at that moment to negotiate a deal. He gets exclusivity on all of Buzz Wire’s stories, first call, “Or else Mick St. John becomes my number one priority. It’s up to you.” He hangs up.

Mick and Beth meet up again on their way to talk to Abbot, and when he walks out, he talks a while, insisting that he’ll never forget Tierney, then suddenly, “oh you know what? I left my phone inside.”

They watch him walk away.

Beth: He’s making a run for it.

Mick: Yeah. They always do.

*Cue Mick chase scene!*

“Chasing people is so much different when you’re a vampire. A vampire is always in control. It’s easy to forget it isn’t a game. And I can’t deny the rush—” He leaps up to a fire escape and cuts Abbot off, slamming him into the wall. “—When I catch the bad guy.”

Abbot immediately starts to confess and defend himself, he tried everything, putting the paparazzi on her so she’d get stressed out, etc. Disgusted, Mick forces back his anger (and urge to turn vampire on Abbot) and whispers a deadly, “Let’s go.”

The paparazzi and Talbot are waiting as Mick and Abbot round the corner. Talbot thinks it’s better if Abbot would have confessed to the police. Mick answers, “I’m sure he’ll give a repeat performance.” Clearly Talbot doesn’t like Mick. He quickly walks off and Mick just grins.

Beth turns to him as they watch the paparazzi rush off (Mick: I guess my fifteen minutes of fame are up.), and she asks him what happens if a vampire thinks he’s in danger of being exposed. Mick explains that “he moves on. Changes cities, names, starts all over.”

“Have you ever done that?”

“No. But I’ve been careful, and lucky. I supposed one day my luck will run out. But until then…how about dinner tonight?”

She tells him that he’s going to get so tired of watching her eat.

He just smiles. “I hope so.”

“It’s a date.”

Later, Beth hands over Dean’s photos of Mick to Josef. This whole digital era is bad news for vampires. It was so much easier in the old days…good ol’ silver emulsion blurring out the vampire. Beth asks if he’s speaking from experience, and he just grins. “Now Beth, you wouldn’t want me to kiss and tell would you?”

He asks her what she wants him to do about Foster and she answers “I thought maybe you could pay him off or something.” When Josef asks her if she thinks that’ll really work, she admits she doesn’t. Then she knows how he’s going to handle this right?

She tells him that Mick’s saved her life, protected her…

“And you’re returning the favor.”

“Just don’t tell him you’re doing this.”

“I can keep a secret.”

Josef heads for the door, then pauses to add, “But as long as you’re involved with Mick, and you work at Buzz Wire, his secret will always be in danger…”

That night, Mick and Beth finally have their date, where she tells him…she quit Buzz Wire. Mick is surprised, “Why?”

“Well with Maureen gone, there’s not even a venire of respectability, and I’m not gonna make a living feeding off people like some kind of—” Oops.

Mick just laughs. “Yes, well…I suppose we’re all vampires in some form or another.”

She grins and lifts her glass. “To vampires.”

Mick lifts his glass. “To us.”

Outside, that creep Dean is there to snap away with his camera. He notices someone is standing behind him and tells the “little punk” to back off, “Don’t you got a curfew or something?”

One of the vampires that Mick met up with on the roof steps out of the shadows. “Not in over a hundred years or so…Punk.”

Dean tries to make a run for it, but the other vampire cuts him off.

“No!”

“I’m thinkin’ yes.”

Bye-bye Dean!

Meanwhile, Talbot sits in his office watching Beth sign off on her last Buzz Wire report. He turns away from the computer and to the file and photos on his desk.

Case Name: Mick St. John. The photos are the car crash ones…

XXXXXXXXXX

I love Mick and Beth being all flirty and stuff, but don't you think something's got to happening to slow it down? I mean, they've got to keep up the UST for at least a few seasons to keep people watching!

On another note, I loved the teasing with Mick and Josef. Those guys are too funny together.
