Lost: What They Died For
May 20th 2010 00:41
Picks up right where the end of the sub explosion left off with Hurley, Kate, Jack, and Sawyer on the beach. Jack sews up Kate’s bullet wound and they head off to find Desmond. In the Sideways World, Jack’s son asks him at the breakfast table if he’s coming to his concert that night. He is. Claire comes out to join them for their first family meal: cereal. Desmond calls Jack, pretending to be an Oceanic employee telling him that they found his father’s coffin.
Desmond then goes back to Locke and Ben’s school, and when Ben stops him from running Locke over again, Desmond beats him up (and Ben flashes to another Desmond beating…one on a dock…). He tells Ben that he’s not there to hurt Locke, just to get him to let go. When Ben tells Locke this, something triggers Locke and finally gets him to go see Jack about fixing himself. He wants to get out of his chair. Desmond goes to the jail where Sawyer and Miles have locked up Kate and Sayid and turns himself in for being the one who ran Locke down. Sawyer comes in to tell them all they’re being transported to county lockup, and on the trip over, Desmond asks Kate and Sayid if they’re willing to go with him, to get out. They agree, and when the truck stops, Anna Lucia opens the door. She wants to know where the man with her money is. Desmond assures her he’ll be there, and soon Hurley drives up. He gets out with an envelope full of money, recognizing Anna Lucia right away. She doesn’t recognize him, and Hurley quickly corrects himself. He hands the keys to his other car off to Desmond and he and Sayid get back in the yellow Hummer. Kate is confused. Why is she with Desmond? Desmond pulls out a dress. They’re going to a party.
Back on the Island, Jacob appears as a child to Hurley, and asks for his ashes back. When Hurley hesitates in confusion (who is this boy?), Jacob grabs the ashes and runs away. Hurley chases after him and finds the grown Jacob peering over a fire. His ashes are in there. When they burn out, that’s the last Hurley will see of him. Jack, Kate, and Sawyer appear, and suddenly they can see Jacob too. They all sit down and Jacob finally tells them why they’re all there: He made a mistake, he made The Smoke Monster, and now because of that he needs them to do what he couldn’t. Jack asks if Jacob wants them to kill The Smoke Monster, and when Jacob doesn’t answer, asks if that’s even possible. Jacob hopes so. He tells them that they were all brought to The Island because one of them is going to need to protect The Light. When Sawyer argues that Jacob didn’t have the right to interfere in his good life, Jacob reminds him that none of them had a good life before they came to The Island. He chose them all because like him, they were alone, they were all flawed. Hurley asks how he’s going to choose which one of them it’s going to be, and Jacob tells him that he’s not going to. When Kate asks why her name was crossed off the cave wall, Jacob tells her that it was because she became a mother. However, the job is still open if she wants it. They all sit staring into the fire, and Jack gets up. He’ll do it. For how long? As long as he can. Hurley, Kate, and Sawyer watch as Jacob leads Jack into the woods to a stream, where, like his mother, he has Jack drink. “Now you’re like me.” Jacob tells Jack that he’s going to need to go to the place with The Light, a place very near the same place Jack first woke up on The Island. He needs to go to stop Locke.
Meanwhile, Richard, Ben, and Miles sneak back into Ben’s old Dharma Barracks/Others home to his other secret room where he’s stored away a bunch of C4. They’re planning to blow up the plane. Instead, they find Widmore and Zoe waiting and The Smoke Monster on the way. As Widmore and Zoe hide in Ben’s closet, Miles makes a run for it, and Ben and Richard wait. Richard wants to talk with fake Locke/The Smoke Monster in hopes that maybe he can save everyone else if he agrees to go with him off the Island. Old Smokey alarms and whooshes in and scoops Richard up. Locke appears and Ben tells him where Widmore is. They go in and after Locke talks to Widmore, Ben shoots Widmore, telling Locke that “he doesn’t get to save his daughter.” Locke isn’t mad at Ben for killing Widmore because he’s already got the information he wants: Desmond is a failsafe. In case he ended up killing Jacob and finding a way off The Island, Desmond is the last one who can stop him. The new plan? Find Desmond and blow up The Island.
Ben: The strangest thing happened. While he was beating me I think I saw something.
~*~*~
Kate: Jin never had the chance to meet his daughter. Locke did this. We have to kill him, Jack.
Jack: I know.
~*~*~
Miles: I get wonky around dead stuff.
~*~*~
Jack: If Locke wants Desmond dead, then we're going to need him.
~*~*~
Ben: It’s where I was told I could summon the monster. That's before I realized that it was the one summoning me.
~*~*~
Sawyer: I killed them, didn’t I?
Jack: No, he killed them.
~*~*~
Richard: I know this man, all he wants is for me to join him. If I can get him to leave with me, maybe that will give the rest of you a chance.
~*~*~
Jacob: My ashes are right there in that fire. When it burns out you'll never see me again. You should get your friends, we are very close to the end, Hugo
~*~*~
Locke: You don’t have to see this.
Ben: I want to see this.
~*~*~
Ben: He doesn’t get to save his daughter.
~*~*~
Jacob: Come and sit down and I'll tell you what they died for. I'll tell you why I chose them and why I chose you. And I'll tell you everything you need to know about protecting this island because by the time that fire burns out, one of you is going to have to start doing it.
~*~*~
Jacob: I brought all of you here because I made a mistake a very long time ago, and now there's a chance that all of you and everyone you care about will die.
~*~*~
Jacob: You call him the monster and I'm responsible for what happened to him. I made him that way and ever since then he's been trying to kill me. It was only a matter of time until he figured out how. When he did, someone would have to replace me and that’s why I brought you all here.
~*~*~
Jacob: I chose you because you needed this place as much as it needed you.
~*~*~
Locke: He said that Desmond was a failsafe.
