Lost: The Shape of Things to Come

April 29th 2008 04:34

Kate spots Jack taking some medicine and jokes, “You got a prescription for that?” He laughs. “Yeah I wrote it myself.” He assures her he just has a stomach bug and she tells him he should eat some crackers, they always made her feel better.

Kate then asks why Sayid and Desmond aren’t back from the ship yet, and Jack just tells her not to worry about it. They’re probably just trying to work on the engine and radio.

Suddenly Vincent starts barking and Bernard starts shouting for help. Jack and Kate rush outside to see him pulling a man from the water. Vincent continues to bark as everyone else comes over. They roll the man in the white lab coat over to reveal his throat has been slashed.

Jack looks at Daniel. “Do you know who this is?” Daniel nervously answers that he was the doctor on their ship.

Cut to:

Hurley: We’re all gonna die.

Sawyer: Calm down Chicken Little, the sky ain’t fallin’ just yet.

Hurley: This is exactly what he wants, for us to fight amongst ourselves. You’re makin’ a big mistake dude.

Locke: It’s his to make Hugo. Let’s get on with it.

Sawyer: Right…I’m attacking Siberia.

That’s right, the boys are playing Risk. As in the board game. (haha!) Aaron sits on Hurley’s lab as he watches and listens to Hurley complain about Sawyer giving up Australia to Locke…

Meanwhile, Alex is being forced through the jungle by camouflaged snipers. We have yet to see any of their faces. They lead her to the fence (as in the one that can kill you and stop the smoke monster at the same time) and force her type in the code to turn it off. She begs them not to hurt everyone else, “They have a baby with them—” The men won’t hear of it. She types in the code.

Suddenly the phone rings. Sawyer, Hurley, and Locke just stare at it. Finally Locke gets up and slowly answers it. “Code 14 J…Code 14 J…Code 14 J…” When Hurley asks who it is, Locke merely answers, “I think it’s for Ben.”

Ben’s piano playing is interrupted by all three guys and Aaron as Locke asks, “What’s Code 14 J?” Ben stops playing. “Where did you hear that?” Locke tells him he picked up the phone and—Ben flings the piano bench open, pulls out a shot gun and pumps it.

Shocked, Sawyer gets ready to move, but Ben simply hands it at him and says, “We need to get to the other house. It’s easier to fortify and we’ll have better positions on the tree lines.”

Locke asks, “What are you talking about?”, to which Ben just answers, “They’re here.”

FLASH

Suddenly Ben gasps and wakes up in the middle of the Sahara Desert (complete with a heavy Dharma coat on and a gash is his right arm). He sits up, throws up, then jumps up as two men on horses with guns rush up and start shouting at him and each other.

Ben staggers to his feet and asks them if they speak English. They motion for him to take off his jacket. He does, and one of the men starts patting him down. His rifle clinks against something in Ben’s pocket. Ben laughs and starts to pull it out and—WhooshBamBoom! Ben takes both men out in record time with some mad fighting skills we haven’t seen before.

He rips off some the fabric from one of their turbans, ties it around the gash in his arm, then grabs a rifle, hops on a horse, and trots off into the dessert.

FLASH

Ben is trying to fortify the house and Sawyer argues that he has to go get Claire, and the kids. Ben assures him that they’re safe. He sent Rousseau, Alex, and Carl off already. Sawyer just glares at him. Claire’s still out there.

Ben argues, “There’s no time!”

Sawyer just pulls out his gun. “I’ll make time.”

(Note: Have I mentioned I love Sawyer and hate Ben? Yeah, just thought I’d bring that up again…LoL)

Locke starts to follow Sawyer, and Ben pulls him back. “You wanna live? I’m your best chance.”

Back at the beach, Jack asks Daniel if he knew anything about the doctor’s throat being slit. Daniel says no. Juliet asks if there’s any hope of fixing the satellite phone, and Daniel points out that the mic is busted. Bernard points out that they could still use it for a kind of Morse Code telegraph. Kate says they might have the stuff Daniel needs from the plane wreckage. They go off to find out.

Back at the barracks, Locke and Ben are moving couches, desks, bookshelves, basically anything they can get their hands on to block the door. Hurley tries to calm a crying Aaron as he asks, “How’s Sawyer gonna get back in?” Ben just looks at him. “He’s not.”

Outside, Sawyer rushes to try and find Claire. Some random guy stops him and asks him about his gun, and Sawyer yells at him to, “get inside and wait till—” BAM! Random guy is dead. Shot through the chest.

Sawyer swings around and shoots into the trees and then has to make a mad dash through a rain of bullets, using everything from white picket fences, swing sets, and grills as cover. (Ahhh! Run, run, run Sawyer, duck, watch out, how-are-you-not-getting-shot? !) He wildly shoots back, shouting for Claire. He makes a run for it and—BOOM!

The entire thing blows up.

“Claire!”

Tozeur, Tunisia

Ben checks into a hotel under a different name, and when the woman behind the desk asks him if this is his first time in Tunisia he says no. But it’s been a while since he’s been there.

Before heading up to his room Ben asks, “Today’s date is…?”

“October 21st.”

“2005.”

“Yes, sir…2005.”

(Interesting…is Ben time-jumping?)

On his way up the stairs, Ben sees Sayid on the TV being swarmed by press people as he says, “I just want to bury my wife in peace.”

FLASH

Hurley’s checking out the window at Claire’s burning house as Aaron continues to cry. Locke and Sawyer are loading a couch onto their pile. Locke orders Ben to tell him what’s going on and Ben simply says, “Shock and awe.” Hurley asks, “Was that Claire’s house? Claire was in there.”

Locke ignores him and tells him to get the baby away from the window. He and Ben continue to argue and finally Ben says that they need to work together to find Jacob’s house. Locke reminds him that he doesn’t know where the cabin is.

Ben pumps the rifle. “I know. But Hurley does.”

Outside, Sawyer continues to yell for Claire, throwing aside charred and smoking furniture until he spots her feet. Sawyer rushes to her side, and pulls her into his arms. She mutters, “Charlie?” and he tells her it’s okay.

Sawyer yells at them to open the door, and when Hurley runs to start pulling things away, Ben tells him he doesn’t want to do that. Locke doesn’t look like he’s about to help either. Hurley just glares at them both, then picks an ottoman off the pile of furniture and hurtles it through the window. (HA! You go Hurley!)

Sawyer hands over Claire then climbs through the window himself. At least Locke helps them through and asks if she was alright.

Sawyer asks why those people would just start shooting without telling them what they want, and Ben says it was to make him mad enough to throw Ben to the wolves. Sawyer thinks that’s not a bad idea. He slams Ben against the wall and looks at Locke. “What do you say, on three?”

Suddenly the doorbell rings.

Sawyer and Locke go to peek through the curtains despite Ben’s warning, then suddenly start pulling the furniture away. Sawyer opens the door, grabs Miles, and pulls him through. He brings a satellite phone. “They” want to talk.

FLASH

We’re at the funeral procession for Sayid’s wife. Ben rushes onto a roof, takes out a camera and starts snapping pictures of a bald guy hanging out sipping a drink and watching Sayid help carry his wife’s coffin. Ben turns the camera on Sayid, who senses his watchful eye and turns just in time to see his picture being taken.

Ben shoves the camera back into the bag and makes a run for it. He doesn’t far before Sayid smashes into him, yelling at the vultures who continue to follow him and—wait. Ben? What are you doing here?

Sayid shoves Ben into a side street and asks him what he’s doing there. He says he’s there to get the man who killed Nadia. Sayid asks him how he got off The Island and Ben said he used Desmond’s boat, The Elizabeth, setting a course for Fiji, where he chartered a plane.

Sayid asks, “Why now?” and Ben reminds him of Charles Widmore. He tells him he’s there now because he spotted a man named Ishmael at Nadia’s procession who was spotted three blocks from where she was killed. He was caught on camera by a traffic camera. Sayid crumples the picture, a renewed determination in his eye. (Guess we know why Sayid’s working with Ben in the future now, huh?)

FLASH

Miles tells Ben there’s about six men outside, and Ben lets out a sarcastic huff, “Well Miles sounds like you’re not gonna collect your $3.2 million.”

Miles shoves the phone at him, “Just take it.” Ben insists that he has no reason to talk to them. Miles tells them they have a hostage and Ben just says that every single one of his people are willing to die for him. Miles interrupts, “It’s your daughter!”

Ben stares at the phone in shock, then finally takes it. *click* “Hello?”

A voice on the other end asks, “Am I speaking to Benjamin Linus?”

“That’s right.”

“My name is Martin Keamy. I’m an employee of Charles Widmore.”

Sawyer asks who Widmore is and Locke just waves him off, “Later.”(LoL)

Keamy tells Ben to come to the window. He then tells Ben to come out and no one else will get hurt, of which Ben doesn’t believe at all. When Ben still won’t cooperate, Keamy whistles and another man brings a plastic-cuffed Alex out. Ben stiffens.

Keamy and Ben continue to non-negotiate, until Ben finally shoves the phone at Alex and says, “Tell your daddy goodbye.” Alex grabs the phones and sobs, ““Dad! They’re serious. They killed Karl and my mother.”

Ben tells her that he has everything under control. “Everything’s going to be okay.” Alex cries, “Please! Daddy!”

Keamy gives Ben 10 seconds…9…8…

“She’s not my daughter. I stole her as a baby from an insane woman…she’s a pawn, nothing more…she means nothing to me. “I’m not coming out of this house, so if you want to kill her, go ahead and do it—“ BAM!

Ben stares in total shock as Alex falls to the ground dead…he continues to stare…

Sawyer checks out the window. “I don’t see ‘em. They just left her body there and disappeared into the jungle!” he tells Locke, disgusted. Locke says, “They won’t be gone for long. It’s gonna be dark in about 20 minutes, and then they’re going to come for him.” Sawyer still just wants to hand Ben over. He doesn’t have any intention of dying.

Suddenly Ben says slowly, “He changed the rules…”

Locke asks him what he’s talking about, but Ben just walks into his secret room, the door slams down behind him, and he goes into his secret secret room with the secret secret secret tunnel…

FLASH

Ben orders a drink at the bar and watches the man who killed Nadia outside at a table. The man gets up and Ben rushes after him through the market. The guy knows he’s being followed, disappears around a corner and—“Walk.” He sticks a gun into Ben’s back, shoves him forward, then flips him around, demanding to know why he’s following him.

Ben tells him his name and that he needs him to take a message to Widmore. When the guy asks what the message is, Ben opens his mouth and BAM! Sayid shoots Nadia’s killer from behind. He falls to the ground and Sayid continues to empty the clip into his wife’s killer, pulling the trigger long after the bullets are gone.

“That should do it,” Ben says, then starts to leave. Sayid stops him, asking where he thinks he’s going. Ben tries to talk him out of following him, “This is my war, this is not yours.”

Sayid grabs his collar. “I spent the last eight years of my life searching for the woman I love. I finally found her and I married her. Then I buried her yesterday. So don’t tell me this is not my war.”

Ben looks at him. “I’ll be in touch.” (Argh! No Sayid! Don’t do it!) Ben walks off smirking. His plot to get Sayid involved has worked perfectly.

Back in the house, Sawyer pounds on the secret door (the first one that is) and demands Ben open the door. He continues to pound and shout until Claire, Aaron, and Hurley come out. Claire asks what’s going on and Sawyer swings around to look at her.

In a completely different, very concerned sweet tone, Sawyer asks, “You alright, Sweetheart?” (Awww, Sawyer!)

She says that she is, just a little wobbly, but she’ll live. Miles says he wouldn’t be so sure about that. Suddenly Ben’s door swishes up and he comes out covered in…dirt?

“Excuse me.”

Sawyer stares at him. “Excuse me?!” He demands to know what Ben was doing in there, but Ben just tells them they don’t have much time. When he gives the orders, they’re to run as fast as they can for the tree line.

Confused, Hurley asks, “You mean towards the guys with guns…”

“No,” Ben says, “We want to get as far away from them as possible.”

Suddenly the entire room begins to shake, windows break, thinks fall off shelves.

And then IT happens.

Ben goes to the window to watch as outside the smoke monster as we’ve never seen him (er…it?) before freaks out! It WHOOOSHGROWLS in, swoops around like a killer tornado, and attacks the guys with guns. Sawyer, Locke, Claire, and Hurley watch the whole scene with pretty much the same stunned horror as the rest of us.

Locke: “What did you do?!”

Hurley: “Did you just call that thing?!”

The black smoke is clearly angry and doesn’t seem to mind the bullets being fired at him. Shouts and screams can be heard from the forest.

They all start to run for safety, and when Ben doesn’t follow, Locke asks him what he’s doing. Ben says, “I have to say goodbye to my daughter, John.” Ben walks over to Alex’s body, kneels down, and cries. He closes Alex’s eyes, kisses her forehead, and weeps.

Back at the beach, Daniel is tapping out Morse Code. He can’t believe they might actually have a signal. He says he’s asking what happened to the doctor. A message beeps back. Daniel turns to them, relieved, “Okay. They didn’t exactly say what happened to the doctor, but your friends are fine and the helicopter’s comin’ back in the morning.” Kate smiles.

Bernard pipes up, “He’s lying. What the message said was, ‘What are you talking about? The doctor’s fine’.”

Daniel turns to him. “You know Morse Code.”

Kate’s smile is gone. Jack turns to Daniel. “What does that mean the doctor’s fine?” Daniel insists he doesn’t know.

Jack grabs Daniel by the collar, asking him if his people were ever going to take them off The Island. Daniel stares sadly at him for a long time, then finally answers, “No.”

Jack is furious, and disappointed, but more than that, he’s sick. Jack grunts and doubles over, but clearly doesn’t want anyone to know what’s wrong. He shakes it off when Kate starts to look concerned.

Back in the trees, Miles decides he’s going to stay with them instead of go back to be with his chopper buddies (and the smoke monster!) There’s a noise in the trees, and Locke cocks his gun. It’s just Ben returning.

Locke looks at him. “I’m sorry about your daughter.:

“Thank you, John.”

“That being said, you lied to me. You told me you didn’t know what the smoke monster was.”

Ben merely says, “You can ask Jacob all about it when we go to the cabin.”

Sawyer can’t stand it any longer. “Hang on - Jacob? Who the hell’s Jacob?”

“He’s the man who’s gonna tell us what to do next, James,” Ben answers calmly.

Okay, Sawyer’s really had enough of Team Locke. “You know what? I’m done with all this! I never should have followed you wackos in the first place. I’m going back to the beach and Claire and the kid are coming with me. You good with that?” Claire nods, yeah, she’s good with that. As is Miles. “Let’s go. You too, Hurley.”

Hurley turns to go with them but Locke and Ben both pull out their guns. Sawyer stops, sighing when he hears the guns. “Have you lost your mind?”

“Hugo stays with us.”

Sawyer swings around, pulling his gun on Locke. “Not a chance.”

Hurley tells them both to stop, but neither Sawyer or Locke

“I’m sorry, Hugo,” Locke says, gun still pointed at Sawyer, “We need you to find the cabin.”

Sawyer once again lets Locke know Hurley’s not going anywhere with them, but Hurley finally interrupts, “Stop! Put the guns down, I’ll go with Locke.”

Sawyer: “Hugo!”

“It’s okay, Sawyer.” Hurley turns to Locke. “Please, put your gun down.” He does. Hurley nods to Sawyer, “You too.”

With a pained expression, Sawyer tells Hurley, “You don’t have to do this.”

Hurley insists that they should go back to the beach. “I’ll catch up sooner or later.”

Sawyer puts down the gun but stomps up to Locke, making sure he can see he means every word as he growls, “You harm so much as one hair on his curly head, I’ll kill you.” (Dude! I’m lovin’ Sawyer more and more this episode!)

Locke stares at Sawyer and says, “Fair enough.”

Sawyer continues to glare at him, then turns to Claire and Miles. “Let’s go.”

Locke looks at Ben. “Which way?”

Ben looks at Hurley then says, “Follow me.”

FLASH

Ben steps out of a cab in London and into a hotel. The bellhop stops him. “Good evening, sir. may I help you?”

“Oh, yes. I’m here to see Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick in 4E.”

“At this hour, sir?”

“They’re expecting me. Feel free to call up.”

The bellhop studies him as Ben fingers the weapon behind his back.

“No need, sir. Good night, sir.” Ben heads for the elevator.

He picks the lock to get the elevator to the penthouse suite…he walks into a bedroom.

“Wake up, Charles.”

Charles Widmore sits up. “I wondered when you were going to show up. I see you’ve been getting more sun.”

“Iraq is lovely this time of year. When did you start sleeping with a bottle of scotch by the bed?”

“When the nightmares started.” He turns to the bedside table and pours himself a drink. “Have you come here to kill me, Benjamin?”

“We both know I can’t do that.”

“Then why are you here?”

“I’m here, Charles, because you murdered my daughter.”

“Don’t stand there looking at me with those horrible eyes of yours and lay the death for that poor girl on me, when we both know very well I didn’t murder her at all, Benjamin. You did.”

“No, that’s not true.”

“Yes, Benjamin, it is. You creep into my bedroom in the dead of night, like a rat, and have the audacity to pretend that you’re the victim? I know who you are, boy. What you are…I know that everything you have, you took from me. So once again, I ask you - why are you here?”

“I’m here, Charles, to tell you that I’m going to kill your daughter.”

“Penelope, is it? And once she’s gone ,..once she’s dead? Then you’ll understand how I feel…And you’ll wish you hadn’t changed the rules.”

“You’ll never find her.”

Ben raises an eyebrow.

“That island’s mine, Benjamin. It always was. It will be again.”

Ben almost smirks. “But you’ll never find it.”

“Then I suppose the hunt is on for both of us,” Widmore states matter-of-factly.

“I suppose it is.” Ben stares at him then adds curtly, “Sleep tight, Charles.”

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hmm...so the smoke monster is Ben's deadly pet then is it? LoL

FINALLY things are starting to happen! I guess the one good thing about the writers' strike is the fact that it's forced the Lost writers to get things moving (and quickly at that!) They did, after all, have to get Hurley and Aaron back to the same place as Jack, Kate, and Sun I guess if they're all going to get off The Island. Although if it's not Daniel and Co.'s ship that saves them...Hmmm...I'm just glad Sawyer's still alive!

Oh yeah, and Ben? DON'T KILL PENNY!!! Poor Desmond...

Great episode!
