Lost: The Beginning of the End
February 1st 2008 06:48
Flash Forward:
Open on a scene straight out of Starsky and Hutch. Jack watches on TV as the police chase down the car, and when they catch up to him, a hand emerges slowly. We wait as sloooowwwly…someone starts to get out. Is it Kate? Is it Sawyer? No, it’s…Hurley!
Back at police HQ, Hurley is getting interrogated by a cop who turns out to be Anna-Lucia’s old partner. He asks if Hurley knew her. He says he never met her. The cop leaves to let him rewatch the surveillance tape of him running out of the convenience store. Hurley’s gaze strays too the window, where suddenly he sees the ocean with Charlie swimming towards him. He jumps up as the window explodes and water comes gushing in. and starts shouting for help. The cop storms in asking him what’s wrong, asking, “Do you want to get tossed in the nut house? Because if that’s what you want I make that happen right now my friend.” Hurley looks very relieved, and throws himself at the cop saying, “You can? Thank you! Thank you!”
Back to The Island:
Hurley radios Jack and asks him if he got a hold of the people on the boat. Jack tells him he better start packing and get back because they’re going home. Hurley lets out a whoop of joy and a, “Dude, that’s GREAT!”
Kate shows up, telling Jack that she can’t find Locke. She asks him why Locke would kill Naomi, he didn’t even know her? He says because he’s crazy, and that if Locke shows up again he’s going to kill him. When she asks him if they’re really going home, he replies, “Yeah, we’re really going home.”
Sun tells Claire that she can’t believe that she’s actually going to get to have her baby in a hospital, and Claire grins. “Rub it in why don’t you.” Ben asks Rousseau to take his daughter and get away from there as fast as he can. Rousseau elbows him in the face and sharply replies, Alex “is not your daughter.”
Hurley tells Bernard that he won the lottery, then does a happy cannonball into the ocean. His happiness is struck short by the return of Desmond. As everyone’s arguing, Hurley interrupts, “WHERE’S CHARLIE?!” Desmond hesitates then says, “I’m sorry, brother…” Everyone is hit hard with this news and it’s suddenly silent.
Meanwhile, Jack gets a call on the phone from a man asking for Naomi. Jack turns to find Naomi gone, despite the knife in her back.
Sawyer says he’s gonna make the call, Sayid and he start to argue, and Hurley grabs the walkie-talkie and tosses it into the ocean. Now they have no choice but to go back to Jack and the others.
Jack gets everyone moving, and Kate runs up to tell him she found a trail. He tells her that they found a different trail. When she argues that it could be a dummy trail, he laughs and says that, “Six hours from now we’re gonna be sitting on that boat laughing about the fact that there was one final thing that we couldn’t agree upon.” She laughs, tells him he’s right, and hugs him. Ben is watching this all very closely. He, Rousseau, and Jack head into the woods.
Sayid, Sawyer, Desmond, and Jin, all load up on guns.
Flash Forward:
An attorney comes to visit Hurley in the mental institution and tells him he feels terrible about what happened. He extends an upgrade in facilities to him, one with an ocean view. Hurley quickly interrupts, “I don’t want to see the ocean,” then tells him he’s good where he is. When he asks to see a business card, the man says he must have left them at home, then asks, “Are they still alive?” Hurley leaps out of his chair and starts calling for a nurse.
Back to The Island:
Sawyer asks Hurley if he’d like to talk about it…the “it” being Charlie, since they were buddies and all. Hurley tells him they’d probably get to Jack and the others faster if they didn’t talk. Sawyer tells him to hollar if he needs him, then walks on ahead. Hurley stops a sad moment, then suddenly finds himself alone. He starts calling for the other guys and finds himself in front of a window that suddenly lights up.
Meanwhile, Jack, Ben, and Russo are trying to find Naomi. Jack starts to reach for the phone, and Ben tells him that Kate took it when she hugged him. He also tells him that she’s following the right trail of blood, not them.
The phone starts ringing and Kate answers. The man on the other end of the line asks for Naomi, she tells him their looking for her then ends the call. Naomi leaps out of a tree and holds Kate at knife-point asking for the phone. Kate tells her that they didn’t stab her, it was Locke! The phone rings again and Naomi grabs it, telling the guy she had an accident. He tells her they lost her signal and she resets it so they can read it. She then tells him to tell someone she loves them and falls over dead.
Back at the shack, Hurley looks through the broken window to find someone rocking in a chair. Suddenly an eye appears at the window. Hurley runs for help and the door creaks open. He squeezes his eyes shut and mutters, “There’s nothing here…there’s nothing here.” He opens his eyes, falls backward, opens them again and…It’s Locke!
Locke asks Hurley how he got separated from the group and he says he just fell behind he guesses. Locke asks him if “Not Penny’s Boat” was really what Charlie wrote on his hand. They both agree Jack shouldn’t have made the call. Locke tells him that if they can’t talk Jack out of calling in the rescuers, then Charlie died for nothing.
Sayid, Sawyer, Desmond, and Jin aren’t too happy to spot Locke walking out of the woods behind Hurley, but before anything can happen, the rest of the people show up. Claire eagerly looks for Charlie and Sawyer notices. Desmond starts to step up, but Hurley sadly says, “I’ll tell her.”
*Insert saddest scene ever!* as Hurley cries as he tells Claire, “He’s dead…Charlie’s dead” Charlie’s death has obviously hit everyone the hardest. Sayid quickly looks away.
Flash Forward:
A guy comes to tell Hurley that a guy wants to talk to him, and he turns to find…Charlie! He jumps up and stumbles away telling Charlie that, one second he’s trying to buy a slushie, and suddenly he looks up and there Charlie is! Charlie says, yes, I am dead. But I’m also here. When Hurley asks him to prove it, Charlie slaps him.
When Hurley asks him if he knew that he was going to die when he volunteered to go, Charlie said yes. He also says that he’s here now because “They need you.” Hurley plugs his ears and insists that he’s not there.
Back on The Island:
Claire asks Hurley how it happened, and he manages to reply, “H-he was trying to help us.” They both start to cry even harder, and from the looks on everyone else’s faces they’re all trying very hard not to.
Jack appears and punches Locke. He wrestles him to the ground, points a gun at him, and Locke starts to say, “You’re not gonna do it Jack, You’re not going to shoot me any more than--” but Jack pulls the trigger. Nothing happens. Jack goes after Locke with his fists instead, and Sawyer has to pull him off.
When Jack shouts, “You know what he did?” Sayid shouts, “Yes! I know.” Locke insists that he only tried to help everyone, and Jack accuses him of killing Naomi. Ben tells him that technically he hasn’t killed her yet, but Kate appears and tells him that yes, he did. She just died.
Jack tells Locke that he’s crazy, and Hurley shouts, “He’s not crazy!” He then reminds them all that Charlie went down there to save them all and it ended up costing him his life! That whatever he saw at the end was enough to change his mind, enough to warn them not to go. “So I’m not listening to you!” he shouts at Jack. “I’m listening to my friend. I’m listening to Charlie.”
Locke asks if there’s anyone else because there isn’t much time. Claire steps over to Locke’s side, and Ben asks if he can go too. Jack says, “He’s all yours.” More and more people start heading to Locke’s side. All eyes are on Sawyer and Kate. After a troubled moment of thought, Sawyer heads over to Locke’s side. When Kate asks him what he’s doing, he replies, “Same thing I’ve always done…Surviving.”
So now we have our two teams. On Team Jack we have, well, Jack of course. Kate, Rose and Bernard, and Sayid. On Team Locke we have Hurley, Claire, Sawyer, Rousseau, Ben, and their daughter and her boyfriend. Did anyone see where Sayid and Desmond went? It looked like Desmond headed over to Locke’s side, but I didn’t see Sayid. It starts to rain.
Flash Forward:
Hurley’s playing basketball alone. Jack shows up on his way back from a consult. They start tot play HORSE. Hurley asks him if he’s back doing surgical stuff, and he says yes. He asks him if the reporters are leaving him alone, and he says that he only has to stop to sign autographs every once in a while. Jack tells him he’s thinking about growing a beard, and Hurley tells him he’d look weird with a beard.
When Hurley asks him why he’s there, Jack says that he’s just there to check on him, to see if he was okay. Hurley says he was really just there to see if he was nuts, that he just wanted to know if he’d told? Jack asks, are you?
Jack starts to leave, and Hurley stops him, shouting, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry I went with Locke.” Jack tells him it’s water under the bridge, and Hurley says he thinks they did the wrong thing. They never should have left. He tells Jack he thinks “It” wants them back on The Island and is going to do everything possible to get them back. Jack shouts, “Hurley, we’re never going back!” As he starts to leave, Hurley calls after him, “Never say never, Dude.”
Back on The Island:
Jack and Kate are taking shelter from the rain under the old plane wreck, and Kate asks him if he’s thinking about Charlie. He wonders how they ever got to where they were. Suddenly something that sounds like thunder comes up, and they realize it’s not thunder, it’s a helicopter!
A man falls to the ground, gets up, takes off his blinking helmet, and asks, “Are you Jack?”
Quotes of the Week:
Hurley: I want to do a cannonball. I’ve been walking up and down this beach every day looking at this water, and I want to do a cannonball.
Bernard: Hurley? You want to do a cannonball? Cannonball.
*He does*
~*~*~
Hurley: You don’t wait with warnings, you…warn.
~*~*~
Locke: If you want to live, you need to come with me.
Jack: No one’s going anywhere with you John. Because they’re not crazy.
Hurley: He’s not crazy! What about Charlie? Charlie went down there that day so we could all be rescued…And whatever he did down there? It worked. But then something must have happened. He must have heard something before he…I don’t know why, but he changed his mind. Because the last thing he did was to warn us that the people on that boat were not who they said they were…So I’m not listening to you! I’m listening to my friend. I’m listening to Charlie.

WHEW! Let me tell you, trying to recap an episode of Lost is not easy! Anway...
This one was so sad!
So…we know Jack, Kate, and Hurley make it off The Island. Who’s the other three of “The 6?” My guess for now is Sawyer, Sayid, and…not sure who. Locke seems to have a shocking amount of luck. The man is like a cockroach! No matter how many times people try to kill him he just keeps coming back!
One last question...
