Lost: Something Nice Back Home

Here’s a familiar shot: Jack’s eye! That's right, it's a Jack-centered episode, and let me tell you, there are a LOT of 
moments in this one! But alas, I will not keep you waiting any longer, on with the recap!
XXXXXXXXXX
Jack wakes up to Juliet’s coaxing. He hears shouting from outside, and rushes out to find Bernard yelling at Daniel and Charlotte. Now suddenly the radio transmitter/Morse Code thing doesn’t work? Yeah right. It worked last night! Jack comes out to tell everyone to calm down and Bernard argues, “These people are lying to us!” Jack tells him he knows that.
Suddenly Jack starts to get really woozy and Rose asks if he’s alright. He says he’s fine, and that they all just have to be patient. He promised them he’d get them off The Island and he will. With that, Jack falls to the ground, unconscious.
FLASH
Jack wakes up to a ringing phone from the hospital telling him about his changed schedule. He gets up, finds a pair of women’s underwear and a toy space ship on the floor on his way to the kitchen, and starts the coffee. He mumbles “A-rod” as he looks at the newspaper declaring ‘Yankees bludgeon Red Sox in series sweep’, and smiles when he finds someone already in the shower.
He opens the door. “Morning.”
“Morning.” She tells him she bought his new razor. Jack goes to examine it, then turns around as…Kate steps out of the shower smiling.
Jack grins as says, “Morning…” again before leaning in to kiss her. They are both unusually happy.
*cue first trailer I’ve seen for M. Night Syamalan’s new movie The Happening, then…*
Jack finishes reading Aaron a bedtime story and looks up when Kate walks in, smiling. He turns off the light and follows her out of the room. She grins.
“You’re a natural.”
“Yeah? My old man used to read me that story.”
Kate laughs.
“What?”
“It’s just sweet to hear you say nice things about your dad.”
Jack just tells her that he was a good storyteller if nothing else. He walks up to her. “You okay?” She tells him she’s just glad that he changed his mind, that he’s there.
“Me too,” he whispers before kissing her again, then pulling her into his arms and running off. Kate giggles as they disappear around the corner.
FLASH
Kate walks in as everyone is trying to help Jack up. He tells her he’s fine. She argues that he’s burning up. He walks away.
Meanwhile…
Sawyer leads Claire and Miles through the jungle. He asks Claire if she’s okay, and she just says that at least she’s not seeing things anymore. When Miles asks what kind of things, Sawyer tells him to back off. Miles argues, “I was just making conversation!”
They continue to walk, and suddenly Miles starts to get flashes…shouts…dizzy camera…”Who’s Danielle and Carl?”
Sawyer and Claire turn to watch Miles dig up their bodies. When Sawyer demands to know how he knew they were their, Miles just says, “Hey I didn’t sign up for this.”
Claire wants to leave. They do.
Back at the beach, Jack tells Juliet it’s just food poisoning. She disagrees. She tells him to lift his shirt, palpates around, and finally says, “It’s your appendix Jack.” As if he didn’t already know.
“When did the pains start?”
“Yesterday.”
“Has it ruptured?”
“Not yet.”
“Well. I guess we’re just going to have to take it out.”
Juliet makes a list of medical supplies and gives it to Sun. She remembers where the medical station is. Daniel says he can go with her, he knows medical supplies. Everyone argues that they can’t trust Daniel and Charlotte, but eventually they get to go with Sun and Jin. Juliet hands Jin a gun. “Either of them tries to run, shoot them in the leg.”
Miles is watching Claire and Aaron closely, and Sawyer steps into his line of vision. “Don’t even think about it?”
“What?”
“Don’t look at her. Don’t talk to her. Don’t mess with her. You got a restraining order, twenty feet.”
“What are you, her big brother?”
“No. I’m the guy who’s gonna put a boot in your face unless you say, ‘I get ya’.”
Miles shrugs. “I get you.”
Back at the beach, Rose and Bernard argue about Jack’s condition. Funny how the day before they’re supposed to get rescued the guy they all depend on most comes down with a life-threatening problem. Bernard argues that people get sick, and Rose counters, “Not here. Here they get better.”
Juliet shaves Jack’s stomach in preparation for his appendectomy. She did a lot during her residency. He tells her, “Then you know the incision needs to be two inches below where you’re shaving.” She reassures him that she knows what she’s doing, but he decides that he wants to talk her through the procedure. He wants Kate to be in there holding a mirror so that he can watch. She tries to talk him out of it, shouldn’t it be someone with a medical background? No. Jack wants it to be Kate. Juliet hesitantly agrees.
FLASH
Jack walks through the hospital saying goodbye to a patient and suddenly catches sight of the back of a man’s head…a very familiar man…Another doctor calls out to him and when he turns back around the man is gone. The doctor, Erica, tells him that someone needs him.
Jack shows up in Hurley’s room to convince him to take his meds (Hurley doesn’t believe his other doctor actually exists). Poor Hurley. Gone is the happy guy we all know and love. Left is the broken man, a tear running down his face as he tells Jack that none of this is real.
When Jack asks why Hurley isn’t taking his meds, he says, “Because we’re all dead. All of us, the Oceanic Six. We never got off that island.”
Jack tells him that’s not true, and Hurley asks him what he did today. Jack starts to tell him and when he says, “Kate and I fed the baby,” Hurley cuts in, “I thought you didn’t want to have anything to do with the baby.”
Jack tells him he changed his mind, and Hurley points out that Jack living with Kate, playing with Aaron, it all seems just a little too perfect…a little too much like heaven. Jack argues that just because he’s happy doesn’t mean it’s not real.
“I was happy too Jack. For a while anyway. Then I saw Charlie…He likes to sit with me on the bench out on the front lawn….” Hurley gazes out the window at the still night. “Pretty cool actually.”
Jack sits back and patiently asks Hurley what he and Charlie talk about. Hurley tells him that Charlie told him Jack would be coming to visit him today. He also left a message for Jack (one he made Hurley write down so he wouldn’t mess it up).
Hurley pulls out a piece of paper and reads, “You’re not supposed to raise him Jack.”
Jack gets up and Hurley stares at the piece of paper. “Does that make any sense?”
“No that doesn’t make any sense.”
“You think he means Aaron?”
Jack turns to look at him. “Take your meds Hurley. Just take them” He starts to leave and Hurley calls after him, “Hey Jack?” Jack turns. “Charlie said someone’s gonna be visiting you too….Soon.”
Sun, Jin, Daniel, and Charlotte have reached the medical station. Daniel stops Charlotte from entering, telling her that maybe he should go first to make sure it’s safe. She steps back to let him.
Jin turns to Sun and asks in Korean, “Do you think she knows he likes her?” Sun answers, “She’s a woman. She knows.” They follow Daniel and Charlotte inside.
Inside Sun tells Jin this is where Juliet brought her, this is where she first saw their baby. They continue to speak in Korean, and Sun is worried. These people are not going to help them. Jin promises her that no matter what happens he’s getting her off this island.
Back with Sawyer, Claire, and Miles, Claire stumbles and Miles offers to hold Aaron. Sawyer reminds him of his restraining order and poor Miles is just like, “What? I’m good with kids.” Suddenly a noise catches Sawyer’s ear. “Get behind me Claire.”
All three of them turn to watch the leaves rustling…more leaves…it’s getting closer…it’s—
“Lapidus?”
“Miles?”
“You two know each other?”
The helicopter pilot warns them that Keamy’s coming. They have to hide. Now! They rush off into the trees just as Keamy and his men bust through the trees, guns ready.
Suddenly Aaron makes a noise. Keamy swings around, eyeing the trees suspiciously. He starts to pull up his gun, stepping forward. Thankfully Lapidus gets him to keep moving. Sawyer, Claire, and Miles let out a very relieved sigh.
Back on the beach, Juliet tells Kate that Jack wants her in there during the surgery, and Kate doesn’t think that’s such a good idea. They grin at each other when Kate says, “I’m just surprised he hasn’t taken it out himself yet.”
Jack comes out and Kate helps him take a short walk. When Juliet’s out of earshot he starts to say, “If anything happens to me—”
Kate quickly cuts him off, “Shut up Jack.”
He smiles. “Fair enough.”
FLASH
Jack sits outside in his car staring at Hurley and Charlie’s bench, then drives off. He wakes Kate up and tells her he just had to stop and get something on the way home. Kate knows something’s wrong, what is it?
“The other night, when you said I was a natural…do you really? Do you really think that I’m good at this?”
“Yes,” she says, looking him straight in the eye. “You’re good at this.”
He lets out a relieved laugh, then stares at her a long time until…”Will you marry me?”
Kate can’t believe what he just said. She stares at him confused, until he pulls out a ring. Kate starts to cry and laugh at the same time.
“Yes.” Jack slides the ring onto her finger. “Of course I will Jack.”
She pulls him into a hug.
FLASH
The group from the medical station is back at the beach, telling Juliet that they got everything. She and Sun walk off to find water to sterilize them.
Jin approaches Charlotte and talks to her in Korean, telling her he knows he understands her. When she still pretends not to understand him, he tells her if she continues to lie he’s going to start breaking Daniel’s fingers one at a time. Finally she admits it, asking him want he wants in Korean. He tells her that when the helicopter comes, he wants her to make sure Sun is on it. She agrees.
Back in the tent, Bernard and Juliet start to do Jack’s appendectomy. He starts to squirm around and Charlotte orders Bernard to knock him out. Jack keeps begging Kate not to leave, to keep the mirror where he can see it. She starts to cry. Juliet shouts at Bernard to knock him out! Bernard comes over with the rag. “I’m sorry Jack.”
FLASH
Jack is examining an X-ray when his smoke detector starts to beep. He gets up to fix it and—“Jack?” Jack looks over to see his father sitting on the couch! The doctor from before, Erica, asks, “Jack?” He turns around. When he looks back, his dad is gone. He asks Erica to write him a prescription for Clonazapan, insisting that it’s probably just nerves from him and Kate getting engaged.
Jack goes back to Kate’s and finds her talking on the phone. She hangs up and tells him it was one of the mom’s from the park. He’s never heard her mention her before. “Well now you have.” She kisses him and heads upstairs.
Jack pulls out his medicine, takes two pills, and—
FLASH
Miles and Sawyer are asleep by the fire. Claire wakes up and finds Jack’s Dad holding Aaron! She looks at him, confused. “Dad?”
Bernard comes out of the tent to tell Kate that it’s over, Jack did fine. She goes back inside to see Juliet finishing sewing up. She tells her Jack’s going to be fine and, “I’m sorry I yelled at you.” Kate tells her not to worry about it, and suddenly Juliet says, “You know he kissed me.” Kate is confused. Juliet goes on to say that she thinks the kiss wasn’t for her, it was for him. “To prove that he doesn’t love someone else.”
Kate thanks her for saving Jack and leaves. Juliet looks at Jack. “I know you’re awake.”
FLASH
Kate walks into the house to find Jack sitting on the couch. He came home early and sent the nanny home. It’s obvious he’s been drinking. He tells Kate that he went to see Hurley.
“Today?”
“Last Friday.”
She asks him why she didn’t tell him, and he says because Hurley’s crazy. He didn’t want to upset her. He then asks Kate again where she was. She gets down on her knees in front of him and asks him to just trust her. He asks again, “Where were you?”
“Jack—”
“No I heard you on the phone last night. Who were you talking to?”
They argue and finally he yells, “tell me!”
Kate starts to cry. “I was doing something for him…for Sawyer.” Jack reminds her that Sawyer chose to stay. He was the one who came back. “I’m the one who saved you.”
Kate continues to cry and tells him he needs to stop acting like this, that she can’t have him acting like this around her song. Jack shouts, “Your son? You’re not even related to him!” Jack starts to cry and Kate turns to see Aaron standing behind her with a big stuffed whale.
FLASH
Sawyer wakes up and Miles tells him that Claire just walked off into the jungle in the middle of the night. When Sawyer asks why he just let her leave alone, Miles tells him she wasn’t alone. She left with some guy she called “dad”. He tells Sawyer that he would have followed them, “but I have a restraining order.”
Sawyer lunges at him, but hears Aaron crying. He runs off and finds the baby alone in some leaves. “Claire? Claire!....CLAIRE!!”
