Lost: Confirmed Dead
February 10th 2008 21:20
Physicist Daniel Faraday, archeologist Charlotte Lewis, Miles Straume (who says he collects soil samples, but can also talk to the dead), and pilot Frank Lapidus, literally drop onto The Island, where one by one they run into either Team Jack or Team Locke.
Daniel is the first to meet up with Jack and Kate, where he tells them that he is one of four people who where on a helicopter. They had to jump (or in his case, got pushed out) in the middle of an electrical storm. He asks them if they’ll help him find the rest of his team. Jack and Kate agree, eyeing Daniel’s gun. When they ask him about it, he admits that saving them wasn’t exactly his team’s first priority…They find a box with gas masks inside and when Jack asks him what they’re for, Daniel just says he wasn’t in charge of packing…
Just then he picks up one of his team member’s beacon. They follow it to a rocky cliff side where they spot Miles’s body. Jack reaches him first, bends over to see if he’s still alive, and suddenly Miles jumps up, a gun trained on them. He asks to see Naomi’s body. He knows she’s dead and accuses them of killing her. Kate tells him the truth—they didn’t kill her, Locke did. He orders them to take him to Naomi’s body because they he’ll know if they’re lying or not. Kate and Jack wearily take him to Naomi’s body, where Miles looks over it alone then comes back saying, “They’re telling the truth.”
They head back into the trees, where Jack suddenly tells Miles that he should hand over their guns because his friends have them surrounded. When Miles just laughs it off, a shot rings out, and out steps the rest of Team Jack—specifically Sayid and Juliet, guns trained. Daniel and Miles hand over their guns.
Meanwhile, Charlotte has landed her parachute in a tree and struggles to get herself free. She finally does, landing in a pool of water below just as Team Locke steps out of the jungle. She can’t believe she’s really talking to the survivor’s of Oceanic 815…she can’t believe that there were survivors to begin with! She picks up a signal, and tells them they should stay right where they are if they want to meet up with the rest of her team to get rescued. Locke tells her that that’s just the problem. They don’t want to be saved.
Team Jack pick up on Charlotte’s beacon, she’s moving fast! They follow it until…Vincent runs happily out of the foliage, Charlotte’s transponder tied to his neck. Jack realizes Locke has Charlotte.
Meanwhile, Frank Lapidus, the pilot who was supposed to have been flying Oceanic Flight 815 to begin with, stumbles up a hill only to come face-to-face with…a cow. The cow stares at him, then saunters off. Frank pulls out his radio, sees that its smashed, and fires his flare gun into the air instead.
Charlotte spots the flare, tells them it’s one of her team, but Locke orders her not to move. She tells them all they’re crazy! When she tries to leave, Locke stops her and then suddenly someone shoots Charlotte square in the chest! Shocked, the group turns around to find…Ben holding the gun. Sawyer’s had enough of Ben and gets in some good hits before Charlotte gasps awake. She was wearing a bulletproof vest.
Meanwhile, Jack and Co. have found Frank. When Miles asks him where he crashed the helicopter, Frank is offended. “What kind of pilot do you think I am?”
He points to where he brought the helicopter down safe and sound in a clearing. Jack and Kate exchange a look. Maybe they will get off The Island after all!
FLASH:
We spot Naomi talking to Matthew Abbadon (remember that guy who came to visit Hurley in the mental hospital last week?). They’re discussing the pictures of the team who is being sent out (Daniel, Charlotte, Miles, and Frank). She doesn’t think it’s the best team, and when she asks what they’re supposed to do if they run into any Oceanic 815 survivors, he insists that there weren’t any survivors.
In various flashes throughout the episode, we spot Daniel watching the news coverage of the wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815. He’s deeply moved, but doesn’t know why. Charlotte goes to a dig in Tunisian, spots the same information in a newspaper, and then goes on to find the remains of a polar bear who just so happens to have the Dharma Initiative’s symbol on it’s collar…Miles goes to a woman’s house, asks for $200, goes upstairs, starts a strange handheld vacuum-looking thing, and begins to talk to her dead grandson’s spirit. He tells her he’ll tell her he’s gone only if he’ll tell where “it is”. Miles suddenly turns to a bookshelf, pushes it aside, and finds drugs and a wad of cash. Out loud he says, “You can go now” to the empty room and heads back downstairs, where he gives the grandmother $100 back. “Half off. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be.”
FLASH:
Back at The Island, Sayid checks out the helicopter. There’s been some minor damages, but it’ll definitely fly. They start to load Naomi’s body, but Frank tells them there’s not enough room. They’ll get her next time around. Daniel is hesitant to leave her behind.
As Juliet attends to a cut on Frank’s head, he asks her name. When she tells him, he says, “You weren’t on the plane were you?” She just looks at him. Frank tells Miles that she wasn’t on the manifest, which he’s memorized. Juliet was already there. Miles gets suddenly angry, demanding to know where “he” is. When Jack steps in, Miles tells asks him, “You really want to know why we’re here?” He pulls out a photo and says it’s to find him. The “him” turns out to be Ben. Where is he?
Turns out Ben is currently tied to a tree getting a nice beating by Sawyer. Locke, who was talking Sawyer out of killing Ben earlier, suddenly asks Rousseau to escort Alex away as he’s going to kill Ben. But before he can pull the trigger, Ben shouts out that they need him, because he knows things. He starts spouting off all the information about Charlotte and her team. When they ask him how he knows that, he simply says that they want him…“Because I have a man on their boat.”
Quotes of the Week:
Locke: *showing his bullet wound from when Ben shot him* I'd probably be dead if I still had a kidney there.
~*~*~
Sawyer: *shoving Ben towards Locke* Then YOU walk him!
~*~*~
Sawyer: Anyone want to tell me why we're keeping this guy (Ben) alive?
Locke: We're keeping him alive because he's been on this island a lot longer than any of us. Because he has information we need and because
apart from his mouth, he's completely harmless.
Sawyer: His mouth put that hole in your gut?
~*~*~
Ben: John, listen. I have information that you need. I have answers.
Locke: What is the monster?
Ben: What?
Locke: The black smoke, the monster. What is it!?
Ben: I don't know.
Locke: Good-bye, Benjamin.
~*~*~
Sawyer: Why are we wasting our time going to some shack anyway?
Locke: Because we're supposed to.
Sawyer: Right, like you were supposed to throw a knife into that Naomi chick's back?
Locke: Uh huh...
Sawyer: You mind telling us who you're getting your orders from, Colonel Kurtz?
Locke: I got 'em from Walt.
Sawyer: What the hell do you mean you saw Walt? In a dream?
Locke: No dream. It was Walt. Only ... taller.
Sawyer: Taller? What, like a giant?
