Lost: Cabin Fever

May 9th 2008 15:12
It’s a Locke episode!

We open on a young girl, Emily, dancing to “Everyday” and getting ready for a date. Her mom doesn’t want her to go. “He’s too old for you!” Emily runs outside in the rain anyway. She loves “him” and her mother’s not stopping her.

Emily runs out and BAM! She gets hit by a car.

And so we learn how premature John Locke was born.

~*~*~

Locke, Hurley, and Ben wander through the jungle, each of them thinking the other is leading. Hurley asks how much longer it’s going to take, and Locke turns to Ben, who says he’s been following Hurley!

Hurley: Oh this is awesome.

They stop to make camp. Hurley isn’t so sure camping with the freighter people on the loose and well, “him” (he nods to Ben). They don’t really have a choice.

~*~*~

On the freighter, Keamy and his men step off the helicopter. Keamy’s furious! When Captain Gault comes out to see what happened, Keamy accuses him of selling him out. No it wasn’t the captain who sold him out…

Sayid cringes knowingly as Keamy and the captain stalk off to go beat up Michael. Despite his beatings, Michael doesn’t deny giving Ben the information about Keamy. Despite the captain’s protests that they need Michael, Keamy pulls the trigger of his gun. Nothing. He shoots again. Still nothing.

Good thing The Island is still looking after Michael!

~*~*~

Locke wakes up in the jungle to the sounds of…an axe? He gets up to find a man, Horace, chopping away at the trees, getting ready to make a hut. Locke asks him who he is, and the guy informs him that sometimes he just needs a break from the Dharma Initiative. The reason no one’s ever seen him before? Um, yeah, he’s been dead for a while.

Horace tells Locke he needs to find him. It’s the only way he’s going to find Jacob.

Locke wakes up. He knows where he’s going now.

FLASH

Emily goes to look at her new baby for the first time. He’s the youngest premature baby to survive in that hospital. It’s the first day he’ll get to be held. Emily stares at him, and then suddenly bursts out crying. “I can’t do this!” She runs from the room. Un-phased, Mrs. Locke asks about adoption. She starts to light up a cigarette and the nurse looks at her appalled, telling her she can’t smoke inside the hospital!

The nurse spots someone in the hall and asks Mrs. Locke if that’s the father. Mrs. Locke stares at the man, insisting she doesn’t know who he is…but we certainly do!

Remember the guy who tried to talk Locke into killing his dad? The one with all the eyeliner? Yeah it’s Richard. And he’s just as young as he always was.

FLASH

Locke leads Hurley to the Dharma Dead Pit. Hurley stops at the edge of the pit. Whoa. What happened to them? Locke nods to Ben. “He did.”

FLASH

Richard goes to visit young Locke, and tells him that he runs a school for gifted children. He notices that little Locke drew a picture of a stick figure being attacked by…black smoke…

He starts to pull out some objects. A magazine, a knife, a vial of sand (?), a book of laws, a compass, a baseball love.

“Now tell me John. Which of these things belong to you?”

“To keep?”

“No no, which of theses already belongs to you?”

Locke carefully looks at all the things and finally picks up the knife. Richard asks him if he’s sure if that’s what belongs to him, then insists that it the knife wasn’t the right one. He quickly leaves. Locke isn’t ready for his school just yet.

FLASH

Locke is going through the pile of bones as Hurley and Ben watch. Hurley asks Ben if this is really the place where shot Locke and left him for dead. Ben doesn’t deny it. He says that he didn’t kill all those Dharma people though. He was just following their leader’s orders.

Hurley: But I thought you were their leader.

Ben: Not always.

Ben finds an architectural layout of The Cabin in the pocket of dead Horace. “He was building it.”

~*~*~

Lapidus tells Captain Gault and Keamy that Keamy’s man who got attacked by the smoke monster is dead. As he walks off, Captain Gault tells Keamy that while he was gone the crew started going crazy. Regina through herself overboard! He says it’s his duty to tell Keamy that this could be what’s happening to him.

Keamy slams the captain into the wall demanding his key. Gault argues that that’s not the protocol. Keamy takes his key anyway. He goes to a file cabinet, unlocks it, and pulls out the Dharma secondary protocol. It says where Ben is going.

“If Linus knows we’re gonna torch The Island, there’s only one place that he could go.”

What? That wasn’t the plan! Keamy stands up. It looks like he’s about to shoot the captain, but instead, “Fix my gun.”

Desmond and Sayid watch as the crew throws the dead man overboard. That was no gunshot wound.

Gault goes up on deck to tell Desmond and Sayid’s guard that Keamy wants them. He then turns to tell them they need to hide before Keamy gets back. There’s a pantry below with enough food and water for two men. Sayid asks about Michael. No he’s not dead.

Sayid argues that they can’t hide. They need to get back to The Island. The only way they’re going to survive is to get their people off The Island... Gault looks at them, then finally says, “Meet me behind the container in ten minutes. The boat will be in the water.”

~*~*~

Locke points at the map. “The cabin’s here.” Hurley offers him a bottle of water, and Locke suddenly tells Hurley that if he leaves now he can probably make it back to the beach before nightfall. He’s sorry he forced him to come at gunpoint.

Hurley argues that oh now that they have the magic map they don’t need him anymore? Wondering through the jungle by himself doesn’t exactly seem like the safer idea at the moment. He’ll stay with them.

Hurley starts to lead away and Ben turns to Locke. “He actually thinks staying was his idea. Not bad John. Not bad at all.”

Locke: I’m not you.

Ben: You’re certainly not.

FLASH

Locke is let out of a high school locker by one of the teachers, who takes him to the nurse’s office to clean up his bloody lip. Locke doesn’t wan to talk about it. His teacher has some exciting news for him. There’s a science company run by a Dr. Albert who wants him to come to their camp. Locke argues that thinks like science camp are the exact reason he gets stuffed into lockers in the first place! “I’m not a scientist! I like boxing, and fishing, and cars! And sports!

His teacher tells him “you might not want to be that guy at the lab who’s surrounded by test tubes and beakers? But that’s who you are John.. You can’t be the prom king. You can’t be a quarterback. You can’t be a superhero.”

Locke stares him down. “Don’t tell me what I can and can’t do.”

FLASH

Back on the freighter, Lapidus opens the door to Michael’s cell. Michael blinks at the suddenly light as Lapidus asks, “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Tell you what?”

“That you were a survivor of 815?”

“Because you wouldn’t have believed me.”

Lapidus pulls the bed Keamy broke off of Michael’s legs, telling him that he’s one of the few people who actually believes that plane on the bottom of the ocean is a hoax. Michael argues that he didn’t know if he could trust him. “Your boss put that plane there!”

Michael tells Lapidus that whatever he does, he can’t fly Keamy back. “He’s going to kill everyone on that island. Everyone. You don’t want that on your conscious, man. Trust me.”

Lapidus goes out to find Keamy being fitted for some sort of box on his arm. Keamy spots him and Michael. “Hey boss! Just taking him down to the engine room.” The man fitting Keamy with the box slams the door.

Sayid and Desmond are at the boat (more like a raft with an engine). Just as they are about to leave, Desmond tells him that he can’t go with him. He’s been stuck on that island for 3 years and now that he knows Penny is out there and still waiting for him…Sayid understands.

“I’ll be back with the first group as soon as I can.”

“Stay on our bearing, yeah?”

“I will.”

Gault tells Sayid that he needs to go. Now. Sayid climbs into the boat and heads back to The Island.

~*~*~

Ben tells Locke that he used to have dreams, used to be special too. Now he’s had a tumor on his spine and his daughter’s blood on his hands. Locke will find out soon enough.

Hurley suddenly calls out, “Guys?...Cabin.”

FLASH

Grownup Locke is trying to walk in physical therapy. It’s not working. Frustrated, he starts to be wheeled back to his room, where his orderly tells him not to give up. Falling as far as he did and surviving was a miracle in and of itself. Locke doesn’t quite see it that way.

The camera pulls back to reveal who’s pushing the wheel chair. It’s Matthew Abaddon . He calmly asks Locke, “Do you believe in miracles?”

“No. I don’t believe in miracles.”

“You should. I had one happen to me.” Abaddon stops the wheelchair at the top of the stairs.

Locke starts to get nervous. “Hey look, I just want to go back to my room.”

Abaddon sits down to look at him. He tells him Locke needs to go on a walk-about in Australia. Locke gestures to his wheel chair. I can’t walk-about anything. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a cripple.”

Abaddon argues that he thought he was one thing, and came back from the walk-about another. Locke just mocks, “And here you are an orderly.” Oh Abaddon’s a lot more than an orderly…

“When you’re ready Mr. Locke? You’ll listen to what I’m saying. And then, when you and me run into each other again? You’ll owe me one.”

FLASH

Keamy and his men are getting ready to board the helicopter. Desmond watches on the stairs nearby. Keamy tells the doctor about the weird message he got from the beach telling him the doctor washed up with his throat slashed.

“Crazy huh?”

“But I’m the doctor…”

Lapidus arrives and tells Keamy he’s not taking them. He was hired to fly in scientists, not killers. Keamy threatens to kill him, but Lapidus knows he won’t. He is, after all, the only person who knows how to fly the helicopter.

Keamy knows this too. Instead of Lapidus, he turns to the doctor. “Sorry Doc.” He slashes his throat and throws him overboard. Looks like the message was right after all!

Keamy turns to Lapidus. “That change your mind Frank?” He threatens to kill someone else in the next 30 seconds if Lapidus doesn’t get on that helicopter and suddenly—BAM! Everyone swings around to find Captain Gault.

“I fixed your gun.”

Gault orders Keamy to stand down. Keamy hands off his knife and holds up his hand. Gault stares at him. “What’s that on his arm?” When he turns to ask the question again BAM BAM! Keamy shoots the captain, who fired in response, but too late. Captain Gault falls to the deck dead.

Lapidus and Desmond can’t believe what just happened.

“Hey!” Keamy calls out. “What’ll it be Frank?”

“We’re flying.”

Lapidus climbs into the helicopter and slides a satellite phone into his bag while Keamy’s men are distracted. He fires the helicopter up and Keamy and his men climb in.

~*~*~

Back at the beach, Team Jack look up. Is that…a helicopter? It’s back! They watch excitedly as the helicopter gets closer…and closer…and—THUMP! Lapidus’s bag falls out of the helicopter as it flies overhead. Jack runs over (despite Juliet’s protests about his appendectomy stitches) and rifles through the bag until he pulls out the phone.

“I think they want us to follow them.”

~*~*~

In the jungle, Locke, Hurley, and Ben stare at the cabin.

Locke: Alright let’s do this.

Ben: I’m not going in there with you.

Locke: What?

Ben: The Island wanted me to get sick. It wanted you to get well. My time is over. It’s yours now.

Locke just stares at him and Hurley adds slowly, “Yeah, I’m cool with you going in alone too…”

Alright then, it’s Locke heading in to talk to Jacob alone. Ben wishes him good luck.

Locke approaches the cabin carefully and steps in. There is a man sitting in a chair, hidden in shadows. Jacob? No, it’s not Jacob, but someone who says they can talk for him.

Locke steps closer, letting his lantern light highlight the man’s face. It’s Christian, as in Jack’s dead father. Locke sits down. Okay…?

“You know why I’m here?”

“Yeah, sure. Do you?”

Locke takes a moment then answers, “I’m here…because I was chosen to be.”

Jack’s dad whispers, “That’s absolutely right.”

Suddenly a chair creeks in the corner . Locke gets up and—“Claire?”

“Hi John.”

“What are you doing here?”

“Don’t worry, I’m fine.”

Locke asks where the baby is, and Jack’s dad says he’s fine. He’s where he’s supposed to be. He tells Locke they don’t have time for unimportant questions. “So why don’t you ask the one question that does matter.”

Locke stares at him, then finally asks, “How do I save The Island?”

Christian looks at Claire. They both have knowing almost smiles on their faces…

Outside, Hurley pulls a candy bar out of his pocket. Ben eyes it wordlessly, and Hurley breaks it in half and offers him the other side. Ben takes it. They sit and wait.

Locke exits the cabin and Ben and Hurley anxiously stand up.

Ben: Did he tell you what we’re supposed to do?

Locke takes in a deep breath. “He did…”

Ben: Well?

Locke He wants us to move The Island.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Wow, okay...so Claire's hanging out in the disappearing cabin with her dad and is totally okay with leaving her son in the jungle? Move The Island? Locke's known about the smoke monster subcionsciously since he was a kid?

I'm so confused! But I love it.
