House - Sneak Peek
October 4th 2006 12:39
I know the season hasn’t even finished here yet (*cough*damn Channel 10*cough*), but I can’t resist doing a little preview review of my favourite show, House. (Right here? See the flashing red lights that say SPOILERS AHEAD? DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW).
The new season is A-MAZING. Amazing, I tell you! Season two was one of the most riveting pieces of television I have ever seen, but season three hits it out of the park, scores a home run, whatever other irrelevant sports metaphor you want to think of.
For a start, the events of the season finale have left House pain free, able to walk without his cane and run (and skateboard) around the hospital. Of course House wouldn’t be House if he was allowed to be happy for more than an episode, and the pain starts to return before he has the chance to properly savour his freedom.
In the meantime, Wilson and Cuddy are scheming behind his back for his ‘own good’, to the point where I wouldn’t be all that big on trusting them as my friends. And his team are bearing the brunt of his sarcasm as the pain begins to return- causing Chase to mournfully comment, "I'm sure he'll be mature and stoic about it. Won't take it out on us at all."
The sexual tension between House and Cameron is amped up again to delightfully intense levels (and I, of course, am loving it), particularly in the emotional episode titled 'Informed Consent'. There also seems to be something interesting going on between Wilson and Cuddy, though that may just be wishful thinking on my part, romance seeking viewer that I am.
The show seems to have recovered from its ‘sophomore slump’ as it were, as Stacy is a distant blip on the radar, leaving our favourite grumpy doc to be an arrogant SOB full-time, but a vulnerable, lovable SOB all the same.
Hugh Laurie is as brilliant and mesmerising as ever, and the supporting cast are finally starting to get the attention they deserve, slowly being fleshed out with their own interesting, quirky storylines. I know a lot of people found Cameron annoying in the first two seasons, but this year she is rising to serious, bitchtastic perfection. Chase is finally being allowed to stretch his skills and prove my theory- that Jesse Spencer is one of the best freaking actors of the lot, and Foreman is continuing to demonstrate that he has layers beyond the ‘nice guy’ persona we were fed last year, before he started to show his true colours.
Regrettably, the show is entering a brief four-week hiatus for the World Series on FOX (see, America have crappy on-off reruns too), but soon it will be back with all new episodes, and I’m on tenterhooks until then.
