House - No Reason

The season finale was rife with questions about the inner workings of House’s mind, not to mention his life based on the end of that nasty little cliff-hanger.
The husband of an old patient comes into the office and shoots House. Twice. Many would say he had it coming, or would wonder why it hasn’t happened sooner. Nevertheless, it sparks an odd, increasingly non-linear episode of hallucinations vs. reality until the viewer has no idea what is real and what isn’t, along with House himself. Included in these hallucination scenes are taco-stand fieldtrips, confrontations and punch-ups, and the strangest sex scene you will ever see on TV. Heh.
By the end of the episode, we realise just how much what we have been seeing is a figment of House’s imagination, and we are brought to an abrupt end to the season with House’s life hanging precariously in the balance. Of course, I think it’s pretty safe to assume he pulls through, but Aussie audiences are going to have to wait 3 months to find out just how changed he will be.
'No Reason' was written and directed by the series creator David Shore, and showcases his alterative style, like the first season (Emmy award winning) episode 'Three Stories'. Often dismissed as formulaic, no one can say that this episode had any kind of traditional House-structure about it. It was very reminiscent of those trippy episodes of Buffy Joss Whedon used to revel in, and gave us a lot to think about in terms of House’s psyche (which is, despite his tendency to speak his mind, something we rarely get to see). Who he trusts. Who he doesn’t trust. Just how much he truly values his intelligence. And just how insecure he really is.
