Lisa Edelstein quits 'House'

May 17th 2011 20:12
Just on the heels of a Season 8 pickup announcement, Lisa Edelstein (a.k.a. Cuddy on House) has decided to call it quits.

From TV Line:

Lisa Edelstein — whose long-term contract expires this month — has opted not to return for the show’s eighth and likely final season.

In a statement, the actress says, “After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead.”

Not really sure what to think of this, but seeing as how so much of the show was the House/Cuddy will-they/won't-they, and they did then didn't, I guess in the end they won't.

House: Teamwork

May 4th 2011 04:06

House gets his medical license back, which means the team is taking his choice of case (adult film star admitted after collapsing from extreme photophobia) over Foreman’s (an “infant limp as a rag doll”). Meanwhile, Cameron tells Chase that she forgives him and they can get through what happened with Dibala. Needless to say, Chase is unbelievably relieved with her reaction, and Cameron decides it would be best for them both to leave Princeton Plainsboro.

Meanwhile, with the whole Cuddy/Lucas thing bothering him, House does his usual confront-it-by-denying-anythi ng’s-wrong-and-go-after-every one-else-instead. In this case, he spends the entire case by 1. Trying to get Taub and Thirteen back, and 2. Breaking up Chase and Cameron. Wilson tries to get him to realize that maybe this time a deeper problem can't be solved with a surface solution. As usual, House ignores him.

Wilson goes to Cuddy, wishing she would have just told him about Lucas so that he wouldn’t have tried coaching House on how to win her over. Frustrated by the ever present House in her relationships, Cuddy goes to Lucas and tells him about her bad day. He asks if their relationship is about them or about House, and Cuddy reminds him that House will make it about him for them. She apologizes to him, and Lucas tells her he’s flattered that she would trust him enough to tell him how frustrated she is after playing it cool with Wilson. He pulls her down on the couch and into his arms. Cuddy can’t help but laugh.

Lucas tries to dig up some dirt on House’s team to help House get them back--which will, in turn, make Cuddy happy. He gets a hold of Chase’s charts and notices that about four months ago Chase started being less meticulous than usual. He asks why Chase and Cameron are leaving, and Chase tells him it’s personal.

House manages to consistently annoy Taub and Thirteen by calling, showing up, and faxing them, enough to get them both to come visit his office by the end of the case. They both want back in. He also plants enough doubt in both Chase and Cameron’s minds to get them to do a drastic 180. Chase decides he wants to come back to work for House, and Cameron decides she can’t be around either Chase or House anymore.

After successfully diagnosing the patient (he’s so sick now because his parents were neat freaks when he was little), Cameron visits House in his office. She tells him that she was in love with him once, that she thought she could heal him. She confronts him on the fact that he knew the patient’s diagnosis a long time ago, but just kept up with the game to win Taub and Thirteen back. She’s had enough.

“You did kill Dibala,” she tells him. “By playing God and teaching us to do the same.”

House argues that he taught them to think for themselves, but Cameron argues that it’s not about the patient for him, it’s about the puzzle. And in this case he toyed with a dying patient to win back Taub and Thirteen. She tells him that he’ll end up poisoning them just like he poisoned Chase.

“Your husband killed a patient, and you’re breaking up with me?” House asks sarcastically.

“You ruined him…” Chase answers grimly. “So he can’t even see right from wrong. He can’t even see the sanctity of a human life anymore…I loved you.” Tearing up, she whispers, “And I loved Chase. I feel sorry for you both for what you’ve become because…” By now she’s crying. Finally, she finishes, “There’s no way back for either of you.”

Cameron holds out her hand. House stares at it. When he doesn’t shake it, she steps up, kisses his cheek then wordlessly leaves.

House goes to tell Wilson that he’s got his team back (well all but Cameron of course), and Wilson is shocked.

Back home, Cameron hugs Chase. They stare at each other a long moment before Cameron turns and pulls her luggage out the door.

At the hospital, Thirteen is back on the job. Taub is telling his wife he’s going back. House stands at the railing, watching Lucas brush back Cuddy’s hair as they walk out.

Cameron: If there was ever a time to turn the page…

~*~*~

House: This envelope is oddly medical-license-shaped.

~*~*~

House: Taub thinks it’s a brain issue, Thirteen thinks it’s multifocal.

Foreman: And neither of them want to work here.

House: Don’t take their word for it. Taub’s problem is his wife, Thirteen’s problem is you, Chase and Cameron’s problem is a dead African dictator. None of them has a problem with the work.

~*~*~

House: I’d hire all four, but a five person team seems unruly. Who would you turn down? (Cook comes up) I’ll have whatever he’s buying.

Wilson: Two cheeseburgers, and two large fries. (to House) There are a thousand people in the world who want to be on your staff, but you’re going after the four who don’t.

House: They don’t because their lives are irrelevantly and annoyingly complicated. Which makes them confused, which makes them make poor decisions.

Wilson: And your life is simple? You went all the way up to a medical conference to cozy up to Cuddy. Instead, she’s dating one of two people in the world you think of as a friend. There’s no way that’s not devastating.

House: So I had an attraction of sorts.

Wilson: Yeah, of sorts that your imaginary tryst landed you up in a mental hospital.

~*~*~

Taub: Mr…Takayama?

House: Yes! I’m really happy with what the last guy did with my eyes, but why would broad spectrum antibiotics fail to work on meningeal coccemia?

Taub: If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a real patient. Mr. (looks at clipboard)…Hitler. Really.

House: Had to find something to amuse myself with while your receptionist bothered her boyfriend.

~*~*~

Wilson: What do you see in Lucas anyway?

Cuddy: I don’t think that’s any of your business.

Wilson: Did you think that House wouldn’t find out? You could have at least have told me so that I wouldn’t have coached him on how to prove his worthiness to you.

Cuddy: I know you’re upset with me because I didn’t choose to date your best friend. But I’m living my life. For the first time I’m not gonna change that because of how it might affect him, or you.

~*~*~

Cuddy: I feel like crap.

Lucas: Yeah, our relationship is either gonna be about House, or it’s gonna be about us. (shrugs) I vote for it being about us.

Cuddy: Well House is gonna make it about him for us.

Lucas: This is very insulting.

~*~*~

House: (interrupting Chase, Cameron, and Foreman’s diagnostics) Enough! Enough! Stop pummeling Thirteen and Taub!

~*~*~

Cameron: You did kill Dibala. By playing God and teaching us to do the same.

House: I taught you to think for yourselves.

Cameron: You don’t even think of them as people, they’re just lab rats for your little puzzles.

House: You celebrate their humanity, I’d rather solve those puzzles and save their lives.

Cameron: Motives do matter. Lives can’t come second.

House: The patient is alive, that’s what matters.

Cameron: Not to you. All you care about is that Taub and Thirteen fell for your game. You’ll poison them just like you poisoned Chase.

House: Your husband killed a patient, and you’re breaking up with me?

Cameron: You ruined him…So he can’t even see right from wrong. He can’t even see the sanctity of a human life anymore…I loved you. (tearing up, whispers) And I loved Chase. I feel sorry for you both, (crying) for what you’ve become because…there’s no way back for either of you.
