A Life in TV Theme Songs

April 9th 2011 17:02
All that I desire to point out is the general principle that Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life.-Oscar Wilde

Feeling nostalgic, I set out to find a little slice of my childhood—the cartoons I used to watch, the theme songs I’d never forget. As I searched, I was reminded more and more of all TV shows I used to watch, grinned at the memories they brought up, and even felt a little tearful at a time in the world we’d never get back. Things just seemed so much simpler back then.

As more familiar shows began popping up in related videos, I decided, why stop at cartoons? And so began my search for all TV shows I remember watching (that I could actually find the credits for anyway). I couldn’t believe how many shows I’d actually forgotten about that, cue the theme song, brought about a laugh of surprise, followed instantly by the sudden need to go watch again.

Thus, I present to you, a life in TV opening credits! Some shows I only caught in reruns, some of them are just a hazy half-remembered memory, but all of them have brought me to where I am today. So thank you creative minds of the past, present, and future! You have inspired me more than you will ever know!

TV s Cutest Couples

April 20th 2010 05:40

This post is dedicated to the sweet couples in TV land. I’m not talking about the usual, tension-filled, will-they/won’t-they relationships riddled with angst and chaos, but the kind that make you go, “Awwww!” every time they cast a shy glance at each other or awkwardly attempt something more.

For me, these five immediately came to mind, and so, in no particular order, I present to you my Cute Couples of TV Land:

Chuck and Ned-Pushing Daisies

She was dead and he can bring people back to life. With one touch, childhood sweethearts, Ned and Charlotte “Chuck” Charles are together again, and even though they can never touch (for fear of sending her back to the grave permanently), they still find creative ways to show how much they care. Whether it’s holding their own hand behind their back at the same time, or kissing between a sheet of plastic wrap, these two were clearly meant to be.

Sweets and Daisy-Bones

He’s an FBI psychologist who looks too young to be taken seriously, and she’s an annoyingly peppy forensic grad student who can’t hide the fact that she’s super excited to be working with Dr. Brennan. Despite the fact that they both deal in death on a day to day basis, these two just can’t seem to wipe the smiles off their faces for long. He’s her Lancelot, and she’s his coma dream tambourine girl. Recently, Sweets got down on one knee right there in the lab to propose, and all I can say is I can’t wait for the wedding!

Hiro and Charlie-Heroes

He traveled through time again and again to save her, and she learned Japanese so she could tell him she loved him in his native language. When he learned she was dying of a brain tumor, he hung a thousand paper cranes so she could make her wish, and when she was stuck back in time, he risked his own life to find her. Hiro and Charlie. Two of the cutest people fate ever brought together, time and time again.

Will and Emma-Glee

He was married to an awful wife taking advantage of him, and she has a serious phobia of germs, but that didn’t keep these two from ending up together over and over again. He helped her with her wedding songs mash up and she was there to take the Glee kids to sectionals when the rules said he couldn’t go. Whether it was cleaning the classrooms after school or taking the kids on a field trip and sharing a peanut butter sandwich, these two are just both so very nice. You can’t help but root for this musically gifted, oh so sweet together couple, even if things do keep getting in their way.

Chuck and Becky-Supernatural

He’s a writer/prophet, and she’s a fangirl/Samgirl. At least at the beginning. When Becky the super fan of the Supernatural books finds out the story is real, she falls madly in love with Sam, not the writer Chuck, but the character/real Sam. That is, until she sees Chuck in action. What can you say? Slashing iron through a creepy kid ghost and saving a room full of LARPing “Sam” and “Dean”s is the true way to this girl’s heart. Just goes to show you that sometimes writers do get the girl.

So who’s your favorite? Who makes you cock your head to the side in a lopsided grin and say, “They’re just so darn cute!”
