Promo here, read on for the recap!
Suresh deals with the side effects of his new powers, Matt tries to see his future, and Future Peter takes Present Peter four years into the future, where he’s (Future Peter) is killed by Future Claire, who tries to kill present Peter. Confused yet?
Tracy finds out she’s a triplet who was genetically altered after her original parents died. She wants her powers to go away. The man who altered her all those years ago tells her he’s sorry, but he can’t. She grabs his arm and starts to freeze him, then backs off. He tells her that he really is sorry, but the company that created her…they made him forget.
Linderman tells Nathan he wants to help him become President, and Nathan just lets out a dry laugh. Why is he helping him?
Future Claire meets up with Future Daphne, who tells her she knows what they have to do. They can use “her” powers.
Ando and Hiro try to figure a way out of Level 2. Hiro spots a vent in the ceiling, but can’t get to it himself. When he asks Ando, his friend just tells him he’s got the super powers, why doesn’t he do it himself? Hiro is confused. Why is his friend suddenly acting like this? Ando confronts Hiro about how he’s been acting, assuring that he’d never hurt Hiro, he’s his best friend! Hiro finally admits that every time he looks at Ando all he sees in Future Ando Killing Future Hiro. Ando says he’d never hurt him, but now he’s starting to figure out why he might want to.
Maya and Suresh have a fight and he chases her to the door to apologize and tell her he will find the answers to how to take away her powers. “For you. I promise.” He grabs his recorder and tells it “I fear what I’m becoming.”
Present Peter goes to find Suresh in the future to tell him he needs to find Sylar. Suresh appears hooded and staying in the shadows. He tells Peter not to repeat his mistakes. He got the formula wrong…Peter asks about Sylar’s power, and when Suresh doesn’t answer, he uses his Matt mind-reading powers to find out that Sylar is at the Bennett House.
At the house, he finds a shocking sight. Sylar in a blue apron, making breakfast! A little boy runs up and hugs him, telling his “Uncle Peter” that “Dad’s making waffles.” Peter is too shocked to say anything. Sylar spots him and walks over and gives him a hug. He hasn’t seen him forever! Slyer tells Peter he should have told him he was coming, he would have made more waffles.
The little boy asks where his Uncle Peter’s scar is and Sylar pulls Peter into another room and tells him he’s sorry he’s come all this way to find out “that we’re brothers.” Peter is shocked. What?! Sylar tells him that he’s not giving him his powers, and that his name isn’t Sylar, it’s Gabrielle. He tells Peter that he couldn’t control his powers, that “every day is a struggle, but I fight it.” He looks at the little boy. “For him.” He’s not condemning Peter to that same nightmare.
Peter holds out a paintbrush and tells Sylar to paint his own future. Sylar tells him not to let the little boy see him.
Future Matt is apparently not a cop anymore. He tells Daphne that he’s not going to let her use Molly’s abilities to find Peter. He tells her she’s a wife and a mother now, she should slow down. She hands over the baby from Peter’s future painting. Matt tells Molly that her mother needs to talk to her.
Daphne walks out into the hall and tells Claire and Knox where Peter is.
~*~*~
Sylar hands over a broken watch to Peter, telling him that it’s a reminder of his past. If Peter can fix the watch, he can understand everything, “Cause, effect, action, reaction…how to change the future.” Peter fixes the watch and Sylar apologizes to him.
Claire, Daphne, and Knox suddenly show up and hold the little boy, who Sylar calls Noah, as ransom against Peter. Claire cocks the gun.
Peter: You’re not going to kill me.
Claire: Yes. I am.
Peter uses his super speed to knock the gun out of Claire’s hand, and Daphne uses her super speed to go after Peter. Knox goes after Sylar, using Noah’s fear to gain his strength. He knocks Sylar into the table that kills Noah.
Furious, Sylar jumps up and starts punching the guy. In his anger, his hands start to radiate.
Peter: Gabrielle!!
Too late. Sylar explodes with an atom bomb-like fury, sending a rush of fire over the world.

Hiro continues to try and hook the vent on his belt to tug it off. He’s too short. Ando tries to get him to let him to try, but Hiro won’t let go. What? Ando asks, does he think he’s going to strangle him with it? They continue to fight over the belt until Ando finally wins. Hiro falls to the floor.
Ando: You always sucked at tug of war.
Ando gets it on the first try and pulls the vent open. “Enjoy your escape.” What? He’s not going with him? Ando says he’s made it quite clear that Hiro doesn’t want him with him anymore.
Hiro tries to reach the vent on his own, but he’s too short. He asks Ando for one last help. As Ando tries to lift him up, Hiro apologizes for ever thinking he’d betray him. He’s always only been there to help and they make a great team! Ando struggles to lift Hiro, telling him now is not the time for apologies.
They continue to struggle until—Yes! They did it! Whoohoo! Unfortunately, Noah’s old partner, The Hatian, appears in the room. Still hanging on the vent, wondering why Ando is suddenly not celebrating with him, Hiro asks, “Ando?”
~*~*~
Tracy tries to turn herself in, but freezes the phone instead. She looks at the dead phone. “I killed him.” She walks into Nathan’s office and hands in her resignation, then leaves, saying she knows what she has to do now. Linderman appears and tells Nathan he “must help her.”
Tracy jumps off a bridge. Nathan flies in and catches her just in time.
~*~*~
Sitting on the couch, Tracy looks at Nathan as he pours her a drink. “So you can fly?” Yep. She shows him how she can freeze a glass with her bare hand. He take her hands. They’re not even cold…She kisses him.
Flash to four years into the future where Nathan and his First Lady, Tracy, are talking to the media. He tells them they’ll be praying for the country.
~*~*~
Future Claire torture Present Peter, wanting him to feel the pain of each and every death he can’t die. Future Nathan suddenly shows up. He wants a word with his brother. Claire leaves. Nathan unties Peter and tells him that there is a goodness to man he still believes in. Because of Costa Verde, “because of you,” Nathan tells him, Congress has agreed to an army… He knows Peter doesn’t believe him. Peter tells him he’s been manipulated by Linderman before, he was going to blow up New York right? Peter reads his mind then.
Peter reads his brother’s mind. He thinks he’s doing the right thing. Nathan asks him to stop. “It hurts!” Peter flings Nathan to the wall and suddenly does a Sylar head slash.
“Mr. President?” a muffled voice calls from outside. “Are you okay?”
Peter stares at his dead brother in shock.
~*~*~
Level 5: Present Day
Peter shows up in Sylar’s cell demanding how to get rid of his powers. Sylar just smirks. Peter took his powers? Well that means he has the hunger now, doesn’t it? “Brother.”
~*~*~
Matt is still seeing his future. Molly and Matt are watching the news report on the blast from Costa Verde. She thinks it’s his fault for telling her where Peter was.
Matt opens the door and Daphne smiles. “I wasn’t fast enough.” She falls forward, her back completely scarred from the blast.
Matt wakes up. Was he time travelling? No, he was dreaming. Matt looks around at the pictures he’s painted. “The bomb. The baby . It was real.” He rushes outside to see the picture of him holding the woman with the scarred back. “Her name is Daphne.”
Matt’s told by his new friend that he needs to find his totem, needs to think about his dream to find the truth. Matt turns to the turtle, frowns, then starts to follow him..
~*~*~
Peter’s mother asks Hiro and Ando where Hiro’s father’s part of the formula is. She blames them for everything that’s going to happen, telling Hiro that his father believed he’d grow up to be a great man, but he was wrong. “And his folly will be the downfall of us all.”
“I’m sorry.” Hiro lays his head on the desk in shame, but Ando pulls him back up. “No you’re not.”
Hiro: I’m not?
“This is Hiro Nakamura,” Ando announces. “He will not rest until that formula is safe.”
Hiro is revived back to his normal justice-seeking hero. “What he said.”
She tells them that someone powerful and hidden is trying to stop them, and Hiro vows to find and stop them.
“Actually you’re the only one who can,” Mrs. Petrelli tells him. “You have the key to unlocking this entire mystery.”
Hiro is surprised. “I do?”
~*~*~
Hiro and Ando finally manage to shove a casket out of the ground. They both collapse against the side of the grave they’ve just dug up.
Hiro: If I knew I had the key—I wouldn’t have buried it so deep.
Ando: Are you sure this is such a good idea?
Hiro: No. But there’s no turning back now.
They jump out of the grave and open the casket lid. Adam’s eyes fly open and he grabs Hiro around the throat. “Hiro. You son of a—”
