Grey's Anatomy: Haunt You Every Day

October 28th 2007 03:42

It’s Halloween at Seattle Grace! Meredith wakes up from a semi-nightmare and goes to her closet…where she finds the urn holding her mother’s ashes. She picks it up, goes out to the kitchen to find Izzie and Alex up because they couldn’t sleep, and empties her mother’s remains into a plastic bag. Alex is carving a pumpkin and wishes her, “Happy freakin’ Halloween.”

At work the next day, Cristina puts up an apartment for rent sign for Burke’s place, and the Chief takes it. Callie comes in to tell them the pit will be busy because it’s a holiday and Bailey adds, plus “we’ve got Seattle’s annual chainsaw pumpkin carving contest.” Izzie asks a question, and Callie tells her to direct her questions to Dr. Bailey, when everyone is confused, she explains, “Oh because she’s been sleeping with my husband.” Cristina’s response? “That’s even more creepy than your bag full of Mommy.”

Lexie gets yelled at by a patient for not taking care of the lady’s husband when she obviously has time to dress up for Halloween. George comes in and rescues her, and tells her he likes her costume. Lexie then finds out that Cristina was lying when she told her they all dressed up. Haha! Nice.

A man shows up at the hospital insisting, “This foot does not belong to me. It feels like a corpse foot.” He insists he’s not crazy, “I work at a bank”. He just wants a surgeon to amputate his foot because it’s driving him crazy moving around on it’s own.

Meredith runs into Derek and accidentally spills her mom on the floor, explaining that she thought it might be disrespectful to leave him in the car. The nurses have it out for Sloan, saying they combined notes on pickup lines, etc. and they’re identical. They’ve now formed a club, “Nurses United Against Mark Sloan”. Derek shows up with a young boy who’s mother was in the hospital, telling him that there’s a kid looking for him. When Mark turns around the kids asks, “Daddy?” The look on Sloan’s face is priceless before Derek pulls out money to pay him. Mark assures him he’ll be getting him back for that.

“Ava” returns, much to Alex’s surprise, to tell him that she wants to be Ava for Halloween.

All of this happens before the “Grey’s Anatomy” and first commercial…

The kid from the beginning explains he’s there to see Dr. Sloan because he wants to reconstruct his ear because he looks like he has a “permanent Halloween costume.” Mark says he can’t because he has no one in the hospital to ask for help on a pro bono surgery because all the nurses hate him and all the doctor’s won’t help because he’s never done anything for them. Meredith says she’ll try to get people to help because they knew her mother.

Ava unsuccessfully tries to berate Alex for not coming after her, but gets distracted by his kissing instead. Bailey gets excited for, “chainsaw contest time”, and gives the guy wanting his foot removed a prescription.

Meredith and the earless little boy hit the chief up for the OR, and Meredith guilts him into it. They do the whole, “trick or treating for ears thing” on Dr. Bailey and end up getting her in to.

A brick comes through a woman’s windshield and she turns up at the hospital with major brain trauma. It turns out to be the woman from the beginning who yelled at Lexie. She’s an organ donor, and it turns out her father is the patient who needs her heart. He refuses saying, “I can’t have my daughter’s heart beating in my own chest, it would haunt me forever!” George tells him he doesn’t know what it feels like to lose a daughter, but he knows what it’s like to lose a father: “I would have given my dad my heart. If I could have saved him I would have given him my heart.” He finally decides to do it.

A man shows missing a finger thanks to the chainsaw pumpkin contest, and his chainsaw gets stolen…buy the guy who wants his foot off…you can see where this is going. Yep, that’s right, Bailey goes running, but doesn’t get there before the guy does his own version of Saw, trying to cut off his own foot. They decide to prep him for a full amputation.

Sloan tells Callie he heard about her marriage and that he’s there for her if she needs him to cheer her up. “Day or night…especially night.” Callie leaves, disgusted.

Meredith and Cristina discuss what to do with Meredith’s mother’s ashes, and…*insert awkward moment as George and Izzie sit down at their table*. Meredith finally says, “I have an earless boy waiting for me. But, I’m happy for you guys.”

Izzie goes after Cristina for not cutting her any slack when Meredith did the same thing she did. She accuses them of being a closed circle. Sloan gets his payback by telling all the nurses that Derek was “lookin’”, as in he was on the market again.

Callie and Cristina have a somewhat bonding moment during the amputation surgery while hysterically laughing over their horrible luck in life with George and Burke. Norman faints. He had a stroke and Alex wasn’t there to take care of him. He was with Ava, and bursts into the operating room obviously guilty. He stays with Norman as Derek operates on him, leaving Ava waiting.

Sloan tells Meredith that he’s impressed that she got the free surgery to work, and Meredith says she is too since it was her first time trick-or-treating. Lexie asks George if Meredith really brought her mom’s ashes to work. When he says yes, she tells Meredith she dug up and reburied her mom’s cat with her because she knew it would make her mother happy. Bailey’s husband gets mad that she wasn’t there to see their son in his Halloween costume. She was helping give a little boy his new ear.

George and Bailey have a moment, and he apologizes for disappointing her. She tells him she isn’t his mother, and he realizes he’s going to have to apologize to her too! But she tells him deep down he’s “not a bad guy”, explaining, “I missed my son’s first Halloween and my heart is aching in my chest, but that doesn’t mean a thing. Because in a black and white world, I simply didn’t make it home. And that makes me the bad guy. I’m always the bad guy.” She tells him she was there when his dad died and then he came back married from Vegas a week later. “All I’m saying is it’s not black and white. And you’re not a bad guy.”

Cristina’s rival becomes the new head of cardiothoracic surgery and Cristina tells the Chief he can’t have Burke’s apartment anymore. She gives it to Callie instead.

Alex apologizes to Norman for not being there, and he says he thinks the whole reason he was there was because his Mary-Beth wanted him to be around world-class surgeons when he had a stroke. He says he’s now going to go into psychology because all of them need a good shrink! When Alex goes back, Ava’s gone.

A little kid gets a new ear, a father gets his daughter’s heart, and it’s just another day at Seattle Grace Hospital.

Quotes of the week (SPOILER ALERT)

Izzie: Meredith put her mother in a baggie and brought her to work.

Meredith: I had to get her out of my closet, she was haunting me.

Alex: And now she’s haunting us all.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Sloan: Gotta love Halloween, all the crazies come out to play.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Callie: He cut off his foot.

Cristina: Yeah

Callie: He cut off his perfectly good foot.

Norman: People do strange things.

Callie: I had the world’s shortest marriage.

Cristina: I was left in a church, while I was literally wearing a wedding dress.

*They burst out laughing*

Callie: George cheated on me, right in front of me, and I missed it.

Cristina: Burke sent his mother to say goodbye to me.

*more laughing*

Callie: I’m gonna be a divorce!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Meredith: It isn’t just surgery. The truth is, I don’t know anyone who isn’t haunted by something. Or, someone. And whether we try to slice the pain away with a scalpel, or shove it the back of a closet, our efforts usually fail…So the only way we can clear out the cobwebs is to turn a new leaf…Or put an old story to rest…*she washes her mom’s ashes down the surgical sink* Finally…finally, to rest.
