Grey's Anatomy - Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response
October 23rd 2006 12:03
“Where are my suck-ups?” Ha. Bailey always has the best lines of the night.
Not a bad episode, considering it was the lead-in to next week's finale. Continued straight off from last week - with Burke shot in the parking lot en route to Denny's room, to verify test results which would guarantee him a new heart. Izzie, in an act of love or stupidity, you decide, decided to stop his heart and ensure his chances of getting it. And so our episode began...
Is it bad that I spent the entire hour throwing things in rage every time Izzie appeared on the screen? She was so ANNOYING. Not to be dissing Katherine Heigl’s performance, because I think she was fantastic and poignant, as usual. I just found it completely unrealistic behaviour for a doctor. And considering I watch this show in the first place, well, that should tell you something.
I know it’s supposed to be an epic romance of great proportions, but I’m finding Izzie and Denny more irritating by the second. And it’s a pity, because Denny is a very endearing character and I completely feel his love for Izzie. I do. I understand her motivation - the desperation that led her to do what she did- but getting everyone else involved and then expecting them to put their careers on the line for her? So many levels of uncool.
Cristina and Burke still continue to be the most compelling relationship on the show. I do like that they aren’t afraid to show these characters’ flaws, and Cristina being unable to cope with the reality of Burke’s condition felt very real to me, as did her turning away in the surgery. And Sandra Oh knocks it out of the park every time, in her expressive but repressed portrayal. (Although hearing about the minor scuffle that occurred in real life between Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey over T.R. Knight’s sexuality made it a little hard to feel sympathy for Burke. Pesky real life, influencing my opinions)
Speaking of which, I found Meredith extremely likable in this episode (and if you didn‘t get that allusion, watch this and tell me you still like Ellen Pompeo. Because I'm finding it hard). I really enjoyed the way she took charge. And she finally made up with George. Aw.
Next week? I have no idea. Channel 7 cut off the ad and the screen went blank. They must be kicking themselves for that missed promotional opportunity.
