GRA's Hottest Male TV Actor Award Winners
February 3rd 2008 01:38
16 of our favorite TV guys were nominated by you for this year’s Golden Remote Awardsd: Hottest Male Character. This was a particularly fierce voting category, so it looks like these guys have some very loyal fans! And the winners are…
In 3rd place with the Bronze Remote: Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) of Moonlight
What about the character of Mick really spoke to you and made you want to play this character?
Alex O’Loughlin: I really liked his humor, was the first thing that came off the page. First of all, I mean you read, as an actor, you read scripts every day and you read people’s interpretation of the characters everyday and some are more thought out than others and some are more one dimensional, and also some characters speak to you more than others you know. And this guy, I just really got him, I understood his motivation and I understood his passion, and I understood why he is conflicted, and I understood why he thought what he thought was funny was funny. Yeah, I just got him right away. I guess it all stems down to empathy. I had empathy and understanding for him, so therefore I felt that I could justifiably play him.

What’s your favorite thing about playing Mick or about Mick in general?
Alex O’Loughlin: What’s my favorite thing about Mick? He’s an awesome character to play, I gotta tell you, I’m standing here as I speak to you, covered in blood and mud. I’ve been up since 4:30 this morning and I’ve had my hands inside another man’s stomach, tying off his thoracic aorta in the middle of nowhere. So I mean the situations this guy gets himself into. I read the scripts and I go “Oh Mick for God’s sake will you just go on Holidays. Can’t you just sit in a hut somewhere for a week?” My favorite thing about him I think is his ability to overcome extreme drama and duress and not lose sight of the lighter side of life, which essentially stems back to the humanity that he clings to, which is fundamentally extended in his heart. So I think without sounding sanctimonious or sentimental, my favorite thing about this character is his heart.

In 2nd Place with the Silver Remote: Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) of Supernatural
Jared: (about being called a hottie) You know since Jensen and I are so hot, it's very flattering and so cute and a girl will come up or a guy and say 'hey your so cute' you know blah blah blah whatever. Um it just (laughs) no, I'm here to film a TV show...... it's flattering, it's very flattering and it's fun to tease each other about that. I don't think we take ourselves very seriously. Growing up I used to see these people who were called like cuties or hotties or sex symbols and they'd be like 'You know I'm sexy'. [strikes a pose] or like, 'look how sexy and hot I am' and I think it’s just disgusting and I think you gotta kinda be able to make fun of yourself you know. However you look is just a shell of who you are- it's nothing really-- to do with you.
Look to the Best Chemistry awards to watch the clip!
Jared: (On his appearance) I'm a little self-conscious about my body. I love to wear hoodies because you can get cozy and eat some food and your belly doesn't show!
Hahaha! As if he even has to think about worrying about something like that.
In 1st Place with the Golden Remote: Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) of Supernatural
Do you feel like sex symbols?
Jensen: Obviously it’s really flattering to be called that, but it’s hard to kind of wear that title, a little awkward.
Jared: We’ve both come to learn that Hollywood will paint you whatever colour it wants to paint you and you don’t have much say in it. I hear the sex symbol thing, laugh, shrug it off, and go back to work.
So you don’t look in the mirror and think “God, I’m sexy”?
Jared: [Laughs] Absolutely not!
Jensen: Are you kidding?

TV Guide: After all your sci-fi roles, are you used to the passionate and obsessed cult fan?
Jensen: To a degree. They're very avid, those fans. They're very passionate about the show and those characters. I like that they're very protective of those characters. I get protective of the characters as well. If I read something on the pages that I don't agree with, I'll call [series creator] Eric [Kripke] and say, "Eric, what are you doing here, buddy?" We're lucky enough to be able to do that.
TV Guide: There are Samoholics and Deaniacs out there. You each have your own coterie of fans, don't you?
Jensen: What's funny is the network always talks about how we skew to a younger audience, but at the events we go to, the ones who show up at the set are usually women ages 30 to 50. It's actually pretty cool.

If the vote counts weren't at the bottom, I wouldn't even be posting this, I would just assume that there was some campaign on some fan site for the boys from Supernatural to win, and so lots of people came to vote for them, but the fact remains that I voted for David Duchovny at least 100 times, and his vote count is only 141?

First of all, thanks for stopping by! There were two polls going on. The one above was started a month before the winners were announced. The other poll (the one I'm assuming you were voting on) was the "Finals round". In that round you are very right. The Davids were winning, then moved to second and third.
Hope that helps! And thanks for voting!!
