January 19th 2008 21:06
Talk about a ginormous category! It's taken me all day, but finally here are your winners for Best Chemistry! And just a quick reminder, here are the categories:
1. Best Romantic Chemistry (of shows currently in production)
2. Best Non-Romantic Chemistry (brothers, friends, co-workers, etc.)
3. Best of all time (character's we'll never forget even though they're no longer making new shows)
Dr. Goodman: The alarm sounded shortly after Mr. Addy cut into a human bone. That must have been the source.
Guy: Was he following autopsy protocol?
Bones: Of course. However…
Hodgins: I was drinking an eggnog.
Guy: (pulls down his beard to talk) And now he’s there with you breathing the same air.
Hodgins: Hey, I got into the decontamination shower with Zack haven’t I been through enough hell?
~*~*~
*Cut to: Zack in the lab playing with a mini robot he made. Hodgins is watching him.*
Zack: Stop!. *the robot does a roll* Stop! *it keeps rolling.* Turn. *the robot stops*
Hodgins: *laughs* Your robot reminds me of you. You tell it to turn it stops. You tell it to stop it turns. You ask it to take out the garbage it watches reruns of firefly.
Hahaha, that’s great.
I’d be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t unbelievably happy that they won! (And no, I didn’t stuff my own ballot box just so you know.
) Here’s a little look at Mulder and Scully over the years.
And now a behind the scenes look at the relationship that is Mulder and Scully.
When I read the quote below about the eyes, I just couldn’t not put up this video. Ahhh…it makes me grin. Haha, good times.
Quotes from David:
Quotes from Gillian:
There are so many great quotes from David and Gillian about Mulder and Scully’s relationship I can’t possibly put them all here. Luckily, someone has already done a lot of the work HERE.
Can’t WAIT to have them back again! Thanks again to everyone who voted!! I love you all!

In 3rd place with the Bronze Remote: Chuck and Sarah (Chuck)
Speaking about the love triangle between Chuck, Sarah, and Bryce, Levi says it's only natural that people are invested in that dynamic. "So many people want Bryce Larkin dead, dead, you have no idea," Levi jokes. "I mean, mainly friends and family."
So will Chuck and Sarah get together? "From an entertainment standpoint, it's like the Ross and Rachel," says Levi, "the longer you keep it eeeeeh, the more people are like eeeeh, the longer they watch the show."

In 2nd Place with the Silver Remote: Booth and Bones (Bones)
Are you tired of talking about Brennan and Booth?
Emily: You mean like, "Will we get together?" You know, there are a lot of great supporting actors and all these wonderful characters on the show, but it's kind of like it revolves around the relationship of Booth and Brennan and that's the way that it is. I'm not tired of talking about it—I'm constantly trying to think of how they can grow in that relationship and change and what she's learning from Booth and how she's changed through knowing him and just how we can bring the relationship into any scene that we're doing.
[At which point David Boreanaz walks up, and since I didn't have a camera crew with me—curses!—you'll just have to imagine the heat I'm witnessing.]
David: Oh, it's aaalways about our relationship. I really think I should be interviewing her. Emily, I've got a question for you.
Emily: What's it like to work with sizzlin' hot David Boreanaz?
David: Yeah, what happens when you come into the presence of Booth?
Emily: I'm amazed that I can remain conscious. It's amazing I don't faint.
David: Where would you like your character to go?
Emily: I would like my character to go to the bathroom.
David: Okay, next year at this time, where do you see the show?
Emily: I see the show on a distant planet, in an alternate universe.
David: Sounds like my mind, 24/7.
Emily: It does! I think I've been influenced by you.
David: She influences me.

You two interact like you’ve been working together forever – or like an old married couple...
David: That’s the kind of relationship we’re gonna have to really explore, in this show especially. For me it’s what’s made it so interesting to kind of jump on board is that there is something behind each one of these characters. Instead of your typical crime procedural show, this is a show that investigates that but also investigates into [the characters]. You put a lot more into these characters, what their life is all about behind closed doors. Because basically people watching it are behind the closed doors, it gives it a sense of how these characters tick.

In 1st Place with the Golden Remote: Mick and Beth (Moonlight)
Sophia Myles on the relationship between Mick and Beth: I think that what will happen is that they'll become a kind of Mulder and Scully type - a working partnership," Myles says of Mick and Beth. Although Mick falls for Beth, they won't be hooking up together anytime soon. "I think the minute that those two characters get together, the show is over. In my opinion, anyway. You've got to want every episode - you've got to go 'ooh, ooh, are they going there?'" Beth won't know he's a vampire at the start. "I think you're going to want to watch them fall in love with each other and it's going to get messy. Complicated. Really complicated.
O'Loughlin said the chemistry between he and Myles came naturally noting, "I think Soph and I became buddies straightaway as actors. We became friends quickly, had a similar sense of humor, we know some of the same people. So there was sort of a pretty easy familiarity straightaway." Myles is British and O'Loughlin Australian and Myles said "It was a real comfort to have him come from Australia. Because I think it would have been a much more daunting thing coming here, playing an American on an American television show, if everyone else was American. So we're kind of allies."

Let’s talk Mick and Beth for a little bit here. You guys have sort of, and I hate to use this pun, but it’s the Moonlighting relationship, it’s the will they won’t they flirtation back and forth, and sometimes it gets closer than others. How long do you think it’s going to be until at least something happens?
Alex O’Loughlin: Something’s coming up in 11 [episode], that puts a big spinner in the works and affects the way Beth feels about Mick, and also affects the way Mick views Beth. A part of me feels like if anything ever happened between those guys, the show’s over. But then again, I’m not the creator. The unrequited love aspect of the show, the Romeo and Juliet mirror that we constantly provide in Moonlight, I think is an essential part of the drama, of the tension. I mean, in Mick’s mind, there is no way he could ever cross that line, despite how weak the flesh is, despite the feelings that he has for this woman, in his mind, that would be the ultimate sin. He looks at her and it’s so awkward, he looks at her through paternal eyes you know, and if he wants to sleep with her, I mean that’s pretty weird [laughs].

Best Onscreen Non-romantic Chemistry Award Winners
In 3rd Place with the Bronze Remote: House and Wilson (House)
Q: OK, and I’m just wondering, because the relationship between Wilson and House, it’s very strange. It’s very convoluted and complex. And some people just wonder, why is your character still friends with this guy after everything he goes through? And as an actor like, how do you approach that and rationalize that this character would continue to be friends with House?
Robert Sean Leonard: I think Wilson puts up with House for the same reason that millions of people watch him every week. I think he’s really dynamic and fun and audacious and self-deprecating. All those things that I think make people really appealing, and he tells it like it is. The money things, he doesn’t tend to pay you back, but I have a lot of friends like that. So I don’t find it that much of a mystery. I think House is a very attractive character. I think most people would want to be friends with him.

In 1st Place with the Golden Remote: Sam and Dean Winchester of Supernatural
The rehearsal we just watched was hysterical. Are you guys always like that?
Oh, yeah. We're very professional on this set. [laughter] Even to the bitter end. We definitely don't want to have any fun.
Oh, yeah. We're very professional on this set. [laughter] Even to the bitter end. We definitely don't want to have any fun.
Hahaha, that’s great.
Was the connection between you two immediate?
Jared: Yeah. I think it was really pretty free from the get-go. I say this all the time -- we have similar interests, and
similar hobbies and similar manners. I've definitely worked with my share of performers, and I'm sure Jensen has as well, where it's all about drama. If there's not some sort of conflict going on in their lives or on the set, then they're just not happy. Here we are both like, "Actors are stupid, man. I don't like to hang out with them."
Jensen: I don't condone them.
Jared: Because something's always going to be going on. But he and I are both like, "We're here to make a project that we are both very passionate about. Let's get our work done." There are no rumors going around set, we have fun on the set.
It's remarkable because, being two guys from Texas, we've probably gone for the same roles. I feel no competition with him. I feel like he's my biggest supporter, and I know I'm his biggest supporter. I am so happy after he just nails a scene -- I am like, "Dude! Rocking!" And he does the same for me. He gives me credit where he thinks I deserve it, and likewise, he's also very constructive with criticism. Like, "Hey, you got a better one in there -- don't get lazy here." He knows me, he's seen my acting more than any other person in this world, because I am acting with him constantly, and vice versa.
Jensen: We can just tell. I can tell if he's faking a line, or he can tell me. To be able to have that luxury of being able to call each other out on it, and keep each other accountable, essentially, it's really cool. I think it definitely helps the show out.

How much of the show’s success is the relationship of the brothers versus the supernatural?
Jensen: Ninety-nine percent is the relationship between us guys, and the other one percent is what the writers cook up, like vampires and bugs.
With that kind of pressure, how’s the chemistry between you guys, off camera and on?
Jared: It’s pretty effortless. We’re pretty similar and have similar interests, same hobbies. We’re both very laid-back guys. We take our work very seriously, and we like to work on our characters and like to have a good time. We keep the mood on the set fun. We just click.
We have a fantastic time, we have a fantastic crew in Vancouver, and it’s all been very organic.
Jensen: I think it’s also just the common love we share for the show. We really look out for each other when we’re working with guest directors, and I think we just truly want this to be a great program. It’s very neat to have that relationship with a costar, very rare.

And the winners for Best Chemistry of All Time are...
In 3rd Place with the Bronze Remote: Rachel and Ross (Friends)
Q: Why do you think it is that Friends connects so powerfully with it’s audience?
David Schwimmer: I think it’s a fantasy family at a time when family unfortunately is so dysfunctional for this generation. The writing’s really amazing and the cast has so much chemistry it reeks.

In 2nd Place with the Silver Remote: David and Maddie (Moonlighting)
From Cybill & Bruce: Moonlighting Magic by Barbara Siegel and Scott Siegel, 1987:
John J. O'Connor of The New York Times wrote "In response, the actor is not your average leading-man type. He could easily be mistaken for the quiet guy down the street. But confronted with Miss Shepherd's Maddie, a flamboyantly insinuating creature, Mr. Willis becomes almost debonair as, the battle of the sexes raging, he appears to be constantly bemused, complete with twinkling eyes. Miss Shepherd gets most of the flashy turns but without Mr. Willis, there would be no show." Mr. O'Connor is right except in one important respect: it's really Bruce who gets the "flashy turns." Bruce himself put it best when he said, "She is playing a straight man, and it can be a very thankless role. It's hard to do it well, and I think she is doing great work in this thing. Some people say, 'The chemistry between you two is what really makes the show.' But you can't play chemistry. You can't say, 'Okay, Cybill, now we're going to play chemistry.' I do what I do and she does what she does, and what comes as a product of that is what makes the show work, I think."

Quotes from David:
"Gillian has beautiful eyes," Duchovny says. "Her eyes anchor me to the scene. They're big and they're blue and they're wet. And the top of her nose goes up and down when she talks. Her nose is a good actor."
The second-to-last-day, when I shot my last scene with Gillian, was very emotional and very sad. I really hadn't pondered the weight of eight years coming to a close until I was in the middle of the scene and realized that this would be the last time I was going to do Mulder and Scully on the show. It was sad and very heavy, but not depressing. It was an acknowledgement of a lot of time, effort and love. (Starlog, 2001)

Quotes from Gillian:
RS: Did you and David have instant chemistry?
GA: He came over to me in the hallway at the network audition and asked if we could read through the scene together. We did, and it was amazing. Better than anything that we've done since. (Rolling Stone, '96)
That last day was surreal. I think a part of my brain was trying to ignore the fact that it was approaching, so I was kind of going about my day as if it were any other day then we ended up in this scene with this dialogue that was the end for that stage of our relationship. All of a sudden I think he was more aware of it and was being really mindful of that last scene. I blocked it out until the last moment where all of a sudden it hit me, that this person that I was standing in front of as I know him and have known him for such a long time, that this aspect of our relationship was coming to a close. We embraced and I just burst into tears. We held our embrace for a really long time and I think it was just flooding over us, the importance of this agreement that we've had to be in each other's lives in a very powerful way. (Dreamwatch, 2002)

And Romantic couples...you have to give a nod to Max and Logan from Dark Angel...or John Sheridan and Delenn from B5?
There have really been a lot of great pairings over the years. Too hard to come up with them all.

Nikki4RLS,
I agree that Crockett and Tubbs definitely had some great chemistry there. (As with Max and Logan and John Sheridan and Delenn) And yes, there are just so many great pairings it's way too hard to come up with them all!
