Glee: Pilot
October 25th 2010 22:24
McKinley High School's Spanish teacher Will Schuester takes over "New Directions," the school's Glee Club, in hopes of restoring it to its former glory. His motley Glee crew consists of Rachel Berry, the overly ambitious and talented singer who is bullied by the cheerleaders ("Cheerios") and football players; Kurt Hummel, a male soprano who is also bullied; Artie Abrams, a wheelchair-bound guitar player; Mercedes Jones, a blinged-out diva who refuses to sing back-up; and Tina Cohen-Chang, an Asian-American goth with a speech impediment. They can't even get in sync, let alone consider the dream of competing in Regionals and Nationals.
Hoping to attract more members, Will recruits Finn Hudson by blackmailing him with detention. Finn, the star quarterback of the football team with a secret passion for singing, risks alienation from his popular girlfriend, Cheerio Quinn Fabray and football teammate Noah "Puck" Puckerman for his participation in Glee.
With moral support from friend and fellow colleague Emma Pillsbury and despite threats from "Cheerios" head Sue Sylvester, Will starts to get his Glee Club on track. Yet when his wife Terri finds out she is pregnant, Will is pressured to quit teaching and take on a better-paying job. The Glee Club vows to go on, and they work together to stage a number without a director. When Will sees them perform, he knows he has to come back to school and Glee. "It would kill me to watch you win Nationals without me," he says.

Will Schuester: I want to take over the Glee Club.
Principal Figgins: You want to captain the Titanic too?
~*~*~
Sue Sylvester: High school is a caste system. Kids fall into certain slots. Your jocks and your popular kids up in the penthouse. The invisibles and the kids playing live-action out in the forest: bottom floor.
Will Schuester: And... where do the Glee kids lie?
Sue Sylvester: Subbasement.
~*~*~
Rachel: You might think that all of the boys in school would want to tap this, but my MySpace schedule keeps me way too busy to date.
~*~*~
Finn: We're all here for the same reason. Because we wanna be good at something.
~*~*~
Rachel: I won my first dance competition when I was three months old.
~*~*~
Rachel: Mr. Schuester, do you have any idea how ridiculous it is to give the lead solo in "Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat" to a boy in a wheelchair?
Artie: I think Mr. Schue's using irony to enhance the performance.
Rachel: There's *nothing* ironic about show choir!
~*~*~
Will: [Rachel's sulking in the stands of the football field] You changed out of your costume.
Rachel: I'm tired of being laughed at.
Will: You're the best kid in there, Rachel. It comes with a price.
Rachel: Look, I know I'm just a sophomore, but I can feel the clock ticking away and I don't want to leave high school with nothing to show for it.
Will: You get great grades. You're a fantastic singer.
Rachel: Everybody hates me.
Will: You think glee club is going to change that?
Rachel:Being great at something is going to change it. Being part of something special makes you special, right?
~*~*~
Finn: Look, I owe you guys an apology. I never should have quit. I don't want to be the guy that just drives around throwing eggs at people!
Rachel: That was you?
Kurt: You and your friends threw pee balloons at me.
Finn: I know.
Kurt: You nailed all my lawn furniture to my roof.
Finn: I wasn't actually there for that, but I'm really sorry.
~*~*~
Finn: I'm not afraid of being called a loser. Because that's what I am.
~*~*~
Emma: Since when are cheerleaders performers?
Sue Sylvester: Your resentment is delicious.
~*~*~
Sue Sylvester: You think this is hard? Try waterboarding. That's hard!
~*~*~
Sue Sylvester: You think this is hard? I have hepatitis. That's hard!
~*~*~
Sue Sylvester: I have a phoner in a couple of minutes; that's an interview on the telephone, with a major media outlet. I'll probably do it on my iPhone.
~*~*~
Principal Figgins: Sue, the dry cleaners here are just as good as the ones in Europe.
~*~*~
Will: I had to make a deal with Figgins so he wouldn't kill Glee Club.
Terri: But Will, I'm on my feet four hours a day, three times a week here. Now I have to go home and cook dinner for myself?
~*~*~
Emma: Do you know who that is? That's you, Will. That's you happier than I've ever seen you.
Will: That was the greatest moment of my life.
Emma: Why?
Will: Because I loved what I was doing. I knew before we were half-way through with it, I remember that we were gonna win. And being a part of that, in that moment, I knew who I was in the world. And the only time I felt that way since then was when Terrie told me I was gonna be a father.
Will: No, no. I need to provide for my family.
Emma: But provide what exactly? The understanding that money is the most important thing - or the idea that the only life worth living is one that you're really passionate about, Will?
~*~*~
Will: From the top.
