Glee: Journey

January 15th 2011 20:55

This is it. Regionals! When the Glee Club finds out that Sue is one of the judges for Regionals, everyone becomes incredibly depressed knowing they’ll never win now. Trying to cheer them up, Will invites everyone over for pizza and to choose their set list for Regionals, but instead, everyone is near tears and wonders if they can just go around and say what they loved about Glee Club instead. Later on, Will confesses to Emma that it took everything he had not to cry seeing his students in tears. They’ve all worked so hard!

Deciding that they’re going to give it their all, that winning doesn’t matter when the getting there has been so much fun, New Directions does a Journey medley for Regionals. Before they can watch rivals Vocal Adrenaline perform, Quinn’s mom shows up and Quinn goes into labor. Everyone rushes off to the hospital. Rachel hangs around to see what they’re up against, and corners her mom later on to tell her that she thinks New Directions has a lot more heart than Vocal Adrenaline. She asks her mother to come coach with Mr. Shue, but Shelby tells her that she’s tired of coaching Glee Club, that she needs to have her own life, her own family. Later on, she ends up adopting Quinn and Puck’s baby, Beth.

The coaches convene, and while Josh Groban sticks up for New Directions (“I thought they had a lot of heart.”), neither Olivia Newton-John or Rod Remington are very impressed. Sue reminds them that not all kids have the same opportunities, and suddenly they turn on her. Wasn’t the theme of this year’s judging “Celebrities”? What’s she doing there anyway? Olivia Newton-John points out that after this is all over, Sue will still be stuck in Ohio, like the Glee kids. They vote.

The judges come out on stage. Sue holds the winning name. She pulls out the card and announces the runner up. There’s still hope…And the winner is…”Vocal Adrenaline!”

Will and his kids are crushed. They didn’t even place.

Back at school, Will spots Emma shouting at Principal Figgins and hurries down the stairs to see what’s wrong. She tells him that it’s not fair, that Sue cheated and all that money is going straight back to her! Figgins has already given away the choir room. Will wearily tells her that he tried, that it’s over and there’s nothing more he can do. Emma argues that, “Some things are worth fighting for!”, and when he asks if she means more than just the kids, Emma quickly assures him that she didn’t. Fed up with tiptoeing around the obvious, Will finally tells her he loves her. Taking her off guard, he kisses her right then and there. Dentist or no, this thing between them is over.

Rachel finds Mr. Shue and asks him to go to the auditorium with her. They have something for him. When he gets there, all his Glee kids are sitting on the stage. They tell him that even though they didn’t win at Regionals, Glee Club will never be over because HE is Glee Club. They all go around and tell him how much he and the club have really helped them become better people. Finn says that before the Glee Club he didn’t have a father, someone to look up to, to show him how to be a man. “We don't care what the judges say,” Rachel says from all of them. “We won. Because we had you as a teacher.” They sing for Mr. Shue: To Sir, With Love. Will is touched watching his kids sing through their tears. By the end even he is tearing up. Sue stands by in the doorway, she looks at Will, at his kids, then leaves wordlessly.

Back in the choir room, Will is finishing packing up his stuff when Sue comes in. Will grimly waits for the inevitable, and Sue tells him that though she proved that she can wipe him and the Glee Club off the face of the map, she doesn’t know if she’s ready to live in a world where she can’t ridicule him and his hair every day. She knows he thinks she’s a bad person, and she may not like him so much, but she knows how much he’s helping his kids and she admires that. (Cut to the voting: Sue votes New Directions for first place and Vocal Adrenaline last.) She tells Will she had a little talk with Principal Figgins (The Glee Club gets another year and she won’t blackmail him anymore). Will is shocked. He thanks Sue, telling her that inside she’s a really good person. He won’t forget this. Sue pulls her hand away, insisting she’s about to be sick, and walks off.

His kids assembled, Will sits in front of them grimly, then suddenly breaks into a smile. “We have another year!” They’re all shocked. Really? No way! Rachel runs down to hug him, ready to start practicing for next year already. Will laughs, telling them all they worked really hard this year, now they should take a break, have some fun over the summer. But first, he has something for them. Pulling out his ukulele, Will has Puck and his guitar come down and help him sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. Everyone’s spirits rise as listen to him sing. They have another year. Will finishes the song and smiles.

Artie: What's the point, Mr. Shue? Coach Sylvester's one of the judges, she's gonna crush us.

Will: Artie, you don't know that.

Santana: Yes, we do, she told us at Cherrio's practice.

Brittany: Yeah, she said "I'm going to crush Glee Club."

~*~*~

Mercedes: You think Puck and Santana will acknowledge my existence if we're not in glee club together.

Puck: She has a point.

~*~*~

Will: Who cares what happens when we get there, when the getting there has been so much fun?

~*~*~

Rachel: Break a leg.

Finn: I love you.

~*~*~

Olivia Newton-John: Brunettes have no place in show business.

~*~*~

Josh Groban: Two questions: One, are you single? Two, how about those New Directions?

~*~*~

Sue: From Fort Wayne, Indiana, the not-at-all stupidly named, Aural Intensity!

~*~*~

Will: I love you, Emma. And you love me. Dentist or no, this thing isn't over between us.

~*~*~

Rachel: We don't care what the judges say: we won. Because we had you as a teacher.

~*~*~

Sue: It's as barren as me in here.

~*~*~

Sue: Your hair looks like a briar patch. I keep expecting racist, animated Disney characters to pop up and start singing about living on the bayou.

~*~*~

Sue: I realize my cultural ascendance only serves to illuminate your own banality. But, face it, I'm legend. It's happened.

~*~*~

Sue: I spent large segments of each day picturing you choking on food, and I recently contacted an exotic animal dealer because I had a very satisfying dream that I once shoved your face into one of those pink-inflamed monkey butts.

~*~*~

Will: Inside, you're a really good person. I appreciate what you're doing for these kids. I won't forget it.

Sue: I'm seriously gonna puke in your mouth.
