Finally an awards SHOW!

After the disastrous “5 reality hosts host the Emmys”, the 2008 awards season was saved by Hugh Jackman and this year’s Academy Awards. Everything from the opening musical number, the grand production design, and the ‘this-is-the-way-movies-are-m ade structure’ made the actual show fun to watch. For the first time in a long time I didn’t find myself getting bored during an awards show or flipping channels during the commercials or super-long speeches. Maybe it’s just my love of theatre, well-edited montages, and creativity in general, but I loved the show. It was funny, it was fast-moving, it was Busby Berkeley meets the digital age. It was the story of the little movie that could (Slumdog Millionaire), the past applauding the new, and last but not least, Kate Winslet FINALLY won an Oscar! Whoohoo! It’s about time!
