A Life in TV Theme Songs

April 9th 2011 17:02
All that I desire to point out is the general principle that Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life.-Oscar Wilde

Feeling nostalgic, I set out to find a little slice of my childhood—the cartoons I used to watch, the theme songs I’d never forget. As I searched, I was reminded more and more of all TV shows I used to watch, grinned at the memories they brought up, and even felt a little tearful at a time in the world we’d never get back. Things just seemed so much simpler back then.

As more familiar shows began popping up in related videos, I decided, why stop at cartoons? And so began my search for all TV shows I remember watching (that I could actually find the credits for anyway). I couldn’t believe how many shows I’d actually forgotten about that, cue the theme song, brought about a laugh of surprise, followed instantly by the sudden need to go watch again.

Thus, I present to you, a life in TV opening credits! Some shows I only caught in reruns, some of them are just a hazy half-remembered memory, but all of them have brought me to where I am today. So thank you creative minds of the past, present, and future! You have inspired me more than you will ever know!

Today marks the start of March Madness here in the US, which means TV will be taking a break for basketball. But that doesn't mean we have to take a break from TV!

Welcome to the first annual TV Chit Chat TV Madness! So what does this mean, you ask? Well here's how it's going to go. The bracket pictured below (click for full size) features the top 64 TV shows as published by TV Guide as of this week (minus reality shows, which are going to get their own special mini-game).

Starting March 17, shows are going to battle it out in their round "playing" the game via your votes. You will get until midnight of the second day to vote as many times as you want for your show to make it to the next round. The 64 shows will be taken down to 32, and a new round/game will start. New polls will go up for the next two days, and you'll vote again. 32 shows will become 16, then 8, then the Final Four, and lastly, the final two shows will duke it out to become the 2011 TV Chit Chat Champion!

So get those voting fingers ready, print off your own bracket (the one below will be easier on your printer ) to choose your winners in each round, and see if you can pick the champion! The winning show will be featured on TV Chit Chat's background for one week.

Good luck to all the shows, and may the games begin!

Josh Groban rocks the Emmys

September 22nd 2008 05:06

There were many ups and downs in this year's 60th annual Emmy Awards, but I must say, the best part of all 4 hours was definitely Josh Groban singing 30 of the most well-loved TV theme songs. From cartoons, to rap, to country, ballads, pop, and voice-overs, the guy did it all. And I must say, it was a lot of fun, not to mention impressive! [ Click here to read more ]

Studio 60 vs. 30 Rock

June 26th 2007 22:07

One’s a comedy by SNL alum Tina Fey, the other’s a drama that brings together one of our friends from Friends and a former cast member of The West Wing. I say, why do we have to choose, why not both
