TV Chit Chat - June 2010

MCC Theater (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, Artistic Directors; William Cantler, Associate Artistic Director; Blake West, Executive Director) today announced that David Duchovny ("The X-Files," "Californication") will make his New York stage debut in the world premiere production of Neil LaBute's The Break of Noon, directed by Jo Bonney, a co-production with the Geffen Playhouse (Gil Cates, Producing Director; Randall Arney, Artistic Director; Ken Novice, Managing Director) Rehearsals begin September 28, and performances in New York will begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) on October 28; performances in Los Angeles will begin in previews on January 25 with an official opening on February 2, 2011. Mr. Duchovny will be performing in the New York portion of the run; casting for Los Angeles will be announced at a later date.

In LaBute's newest play, Mr. Duchovny will star as John Smith, a man who, amidst the chaos and horror of the worst office shooting in American history, sees the face of God. His modern-day revelation creates a maelstrom of disbelief among everyone he knows. A newcomer to faith, John urgently searches for a modern response to the age-old question: at what cost salvation?

It's about time! I was wondering when Broadway would finally start calling.

Looks like next season will be the last for quirky Michael Scott on The Office. With his contract up after next year, Steve Carell confirmed that it will indeed be his last.

"Yes, it will be my last," Carell, 47, told UsMagazine.com while promoting his movie "Despicable Me". "It's the last (season) on my contract, and I want to honor my contract."

[...]Carell's departure may not mean the end of "The Office" however. NBC executives told reporters in May that the network regarded the show as an ensemble piece and that producers were prepared for a possible departure by Carell.

The actor told Us Magazine he would be sad to leave the comedy series. "These are some of my best friends in the world! But it will be good -- it will be good for everybody," he said.

This week's Song of the Week is from this season's Grey's Anatomy finale, "Death and All of His Friends" (the one where a shooter is loose in the hospital, and well, you see the name of the episode...)

This week's Song of the Week is more songs of the week, with The Oceanic Six. In case you haven't gotten it yet by the name and the picture, yes, they sing about Lost. With songs like "The Invisible Others", "Good Morning Charlie", "Henry Gale", and "Dude", any Lost fan will soon find it hard not to grin while listening. So head on over to their site and check out some great Lost-themed tunes!

Rumor has it that X-files veteran Mitch Pileggi (a.k.a. Walter Skinner, a.k.a. Sam and Dean's flash-back grandpa) will be back next season in Supernatural, possibly in a recurring role! To refresh your memory, Samuel Campbell appeared in S4's 'In the Beginning' when Dean was sent back in time Back to the Future style to see how his parents became hunters. Er, well, how his mom was already a hunter, his dad became one, and why the Yellow-Eyed Demon came after their family years later. Considering how we left him, it'll be interesting to see how they bring him back.

Moonlight now on the CW

June 18th 2010 02:20

8:00 on a Thursday during the summer, and I'm flipping through the channels hoping to catch a rerun of Supernatural, and low and behold, what should I run across but Moonlight! That's right, the CW is now home to my personal favorite vampire, Mick St. John. (At least for the summer and in reruns.) So head on over to the Moonlight page on the CW to find out more about the vampire show that was, sadly, one year ahead of it's time. To think we could have had so many more years...*sigh* Well, at least we still have the summer and DVDs.
