TV Chit Chat - May 2009

Jay Leno said goodbye to The Tonight Show tonight (Friday, May 29, 2009) after 17 years as host. He graciously thanked everyone from his staff to his fans and wife for sticking with him all these years, and welcomed in the soon to be new host of the show, Conan O'brien. When asked what "legacy" he's leaving behind, his answer was to bring out all of his staff's children. The perfect answer from a well-loved host.

But have no fear, this is not the last we'll see of the king of late night. Jay may not be hosting The Tonight Show next year, but you'll still be able to catch him on NBC. That's right, starting next season, he'll be hosting a new show just an hour earlier than he's used to.

Of all the late night hosts I've grown up with, Jay Leno was my favorite, and I'd just like to say a big THANK YOU for 17 years of great TV! Congrats to Conan too, I can't wait to see what's in store for next year!

Based on this season's finale of Lost, it should come as no surprise that we should expect to see less of Juliet on the last season.

From EW:

ABC is expected to announce [...] that it has picked up a reboot of the camptastic '80s thriller V and that Lost heroine Elizabeth Mitchell is a full-time castmember.

Translation: She will not be returning to Lost as a series regular.

However, before you go declaring Juliet DOA from last week's detonated hydrogen bomb, I should point out that this piece of scoop comes with a big but attached: Mitchell's Lost days are not done. Multiple sources confirm that the actress is expected to appear in an unspecified number of episodes next season, so it's entirely possible Juliet survived Jughead and her absence will be explained in another way.

XF3 Campaign Second Phase

May 28th 2009 23:10

From XFN:

School is out, summer is soon to be upon us and we know that you don't have anything better to do than to promote "The X-Files" SO, we are officially announcing the second phase of the "Believe in the Future" campaign! Why did it take us so long? Well, like Chris Carter, we also think good things come to those who wait, and wait, and wait some more.

The first phase was announced on May 1st and included a world wide postcard project in which fans from all over the globe began submitting post cards asking FOX to green-light a third "X-Files" feature film. Regional liaisons began collecting cards to forward to XFN's Los Angeles office for delivery to FOX in November. That part of the campaign is still ongoing.

The second phase will continue the worldwide post card project but in addition to this, we are asking for help from all "X-Files" fan vidders. During this phase, we are asking vidders to submit videos advertising interest for a third film in three ways. The first is based on the IWTB testimonials done by David and Gillian while promoting XF2. You can find a link to that here. The second is based on a specific Match.com advertisement. You may find a link to that one here. We suggest starting off that video with the completion of a third film and ending it with the first time you saw the "Believe in the Future" campaign on XFN. This will make sense when you watch the clip. If you have any questions on how to proceed with that one, let us know, we'd be glad to help. The third, is based on the famous "priceless" mastercard commercials. You may find an example for that here.

All videos need to be uploaded to YouTube so that the general YouTube population will be able to see them. The idea is to spread the word. XFN will be sending every video that is included in this phase 2 to FOX so we encourage all of you to submit videos. We will also be running a video contest where vidders can win "Believe in the Future" merchandise. Please include XF3 Army in title of your video, preferably before the title you give the video.

In addition to submitting videos for the "Believe in the Future" campaign, XFN is also hosting an IWTB week that will take place from July 18th through July 25th. During this week, we are calling on all fans to go out and purchase the single disk copy of IWTB on DVD or on iTunes and mail us a copy of your receipt. You may then keep the extra copy of the film or we will be organizing a donation to several charities that include soldiers overseas and retirement homes among others. More information on that will be released at a later date. The purpose of IWTB week is to spike the film's sales and send a message to FOX.

We have been humbled by the outpouring of support and the success thus far of the "Believe in the Future" campaign and we very much look forward to going the distance with you. Keep on believing.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like they're being transported back to the early 90s? Right on the tail of the 90210 revival, The CW has added Melrose Place to the schedule of shows for next year. Also on the menu is the new show, Vampire Diaries, sure to snag at least some of the Twilight fans out there. (CBS, I bet you're regretting the whole cancelling of Moonlight now, aren't you? *sigh* We tried to warn you, but did you listen? Noooo...) Read on for more info on The CW's next season.

NBC renews Chuck!

May 18th 2009 16:32
Chuck fans rejoice! After delaying the decision on whether or not to renew the quirky spy show, NBC finally announced that yes, they WILL be bringing back our favorite accidental spy. Whoohoo! NBC you have managed to do what Fox, CBS, and ABC have failed to do lately, and that’s restore my faith in the future of good scripted TV!

Before last Thursday's “Supernatural” episode, Castiel had been a pretty big mystery. But in “The Rapture,” we got the backstory behind his meat suit: Turns out Jimmy was a religious man with a wife and kid, a pretty good life... until Castiel came along, stealing Jimmy's mind and body, taking him away from his family.
