TV Chit Chat - August 2007

In light of the High School Musical explosion, I decided to create this poll to see what you guys really thought of the second Disney Channel movie. Were you sucked in despite yourself, secretly finding that you kind of liked it? Or are you one of the die-hard fans who insists it was the greatest thing ever made? Perhaps the worst? Cheesiest? In any case, show your votes and make your case here!

Ah the Teen Choice Awards…it doesn’t matter how bad or good they turn out to be I’ll keep watching because that’s just the type of fan I am…Ok, so last night I couldn’t find anything on TV, and then I suddenly remembered that the Teen Choice Awards were on Fox. Lots of screaming and yelling and High School Musical chaos, but I decided to watch anyway because there were actually some good shows and actors nominated.

Well, I watched the whole thing and they ended up not really airing half the awards. I’m not sure who decides which awards will or won’t be given out live, but the choices seemed to veer in the comedy, Disney, Nickelodeon way. I must not have been paying attention because I felt like I missed half the show. Or maybe it was just the fact that all the usual most important awards were given out in one rushed montage that didn’t even mention the rest of the nominees.

Anyway, I ended up watching mostly for the presenters: Jared Padalecki, who ended up giving out the High School Musical 2 award for choice TV movie (big surprise). He was only about two feet taller than all the kids who got up to accept the award. Our favorite Bones duo Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz was there to present and she was up for Choice TV Actress: Drama.

Among other favorites nominated were Hugh Laurie (House), Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), Matthew Fox (Lost), an dMilo Ventimiglia (Heroes) for Choice TV Actor: Drama. The surfboard award went to Hugh Laurie. This was unfortunately one of the awards I must have “missed” despite the fact that I watched the entire thing and never once left the room…in fact I didn’t even know he’d won until later when I checked online. Granted, I was on my computer for half the time, but still…

Choice TV Show: Drama also had some good nominees with Choice TV Show: Drama:
Grey's Anatomy, Heroes, House, and Lost. Grey’s came away the winner, which I was happy with. When it came to Choice TV Actress: Drama some our favorites nominees included Emily Deschanel (Bones), Evangeline Lilly (Lost), Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), and Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy). Hayden Panettiere, the only “teen” in the group came away that winner.

So, unlike the show I’m going to give you a list of both the nominees and the winners all at once and in an easy-to-follow, no Jessica Alba, Dane Cook, Justin Timberlake interruptions…and they weren’t even the hosts. So here goes, the winners are in bold.

Kristen Bell the next

August 22nd 2007 18:47

Good new for Kristen Bell fans. There may not be another season of Veronica Mars, but you’ll still be able to catch more of the actress on this season of Heroes.

According to Variety*:
Bell will make her first “Heroes” appearance in October. She’ll play Elle, a character described as a sexy, mysterious young lady who has ties to the supposed death of Peter, H.R.G.’s past and the future of Claire. Elle will kick off her arc by committing a serious crime, though it’s unclear whether she’s good or bad.

The new season of Heroes starts September 24!

The new TV season is just around the corner and I’ve come up with three main categories for my “To Watch List”.

1. Returning favorites.
2. New shows I definitely want to watch.
And 3. “This looks kind of good but I haven’t really decided if I can fit it into my schedule yet”.

I will skip Number 1 for now as we all know I’ll be talking more about it when it gets closer to premiere time, and move on instead to 2 and 3.

Number 2: New Shows I definitely want to watch.

New Amsterdam, Fox

When I first saw the beginning of the promo for this show I started thinking, hmm, this looks kind of good. An immortal New York homicide detective. And then I saw Zuleikha Robinson (a.k.a. Yves Adele Harlow) and my loyalty as a fan of The Lone Gunmenreassured that I will be watching this new show. Staring Nikolaj Coster Waldau (a.k.a. the Village Sheriff in the historical epic Kingdom of Heaven), this story of a man who earned immorality by saving the life of a young Native Indian girl when he was a Dutch solider in the colony of New Amsterdam in 1642 looks promising for this new season. The fact that it’ll be right after Bones Fridays in January is another plus.

Moonlight, Premieres Friday, September 28, 9/8c, CBS

Granted I love The X-files and Supernatural, but I’ve never been one to flock to anything centered solely on vampires. However, when I saw the promo for this new show, I’ll admit I was curious. Moonlight stars Alex O'Loughlin (The Holiday) as Private Investigator Mick St. John, a man who just so happens to be a vampire after being bitten by his bride on his wedding night 60 years ago. As the official site says, he must now deal with “fighting his adversaries among the undead while being in love with a mortal woman […] cautiously balance[ing] these two lives before they clash, proving that life’s gravest dangers are found in the moonlight.” Interesting…

Pushing Daisies: Premieres Wednesday, October 3, 8/7c on ABC

Approaching the PI show with a different twist is this new show that definitely comes at death with a lighter note, but a deadly touch. Literally. From the official site, “Pushing Daisies is a love story about a pie-baking young man [“Ned”, Lee Pace (The Good Shepherd)] with a very special gift… the ability to return dead people briefly back to life with just a simple touch -- enabling him to help a P.I. crack murder cases by asking victims to name their killers.” The Men In Black-esk feel to this show will definitely get me to tune in at least for the premiere, if not every week after that.

Private Practice: Premieres Wednesday, September 26, 9/8c ABC

What can I say? It’s a Grey’s Anatomy spin-off staring Kate Walsh (Dr. Addison Montgomery) with Tim Daly, who I might add I miss as Nick Cavanaugh of The Nine. When I watched the few sort of, “test episodes” of Grey’s Anatomy I had mixed feelings. One, I didn’t want Addison to leave Seattle Grace, and Two, there was a definite almost too happy feel for me to the Oceanside Wellness Center in Santa Monica. But I love Grey’s Anatomy, so I’m willing to give the creators a chance.

And now we move on to Number 3 on my “To Watch List”, the, “This looks kind of good but I haven’t really decided if I can fit it into my schedule yet” category. Long category, I know, but hear me out here. First up we have,

Journeyman: Premieres Monday, September 24, 10/9c NBC

I didn’t know much about this show at first, aside from the fact that I remember playing the game a long time ago and liking it. This one stars Dan Vasser (Rome) as a “San Frannscico newspaper reporter and family man who inexplicably begins to travel through time and change people’s lives.” NBC labels it as a “romantic mystery-drama”, and after watching the promo, I’m thinkin’ I’ll probably tune it to check it out.

Chuck: Premieres Monday, September 24, 8/7c NBC

At first I didn’t really pay much attention to this show because it looked like yet another comedy trying to be The Office, but then I actually paid attention to the television, and realized that it was actually kind of in the realm of “my type of shows”. “Computer geek by day. Government operative by night.” What more do I need to say?

Bionic Woman: Premieres Wednesday, September 26, 9/8c NBC

I’m always hesitant when someone tries to take an old classic and make it new, but I really liked what Frank Spotnitz did with Night Stalker, so I’m totally willing to give fellow X-file alum Glen Morgan a chance with Bionic Woman. And somehow it just seems to fit that if I’m going to watch a show called Journeyman, I should watch one called Bionic Woman to even things out.

More XF2 news-from CC himself

August 8th 2007 02:59

In a Q&A over at EW.com*, X-files series creator Chris Carter talks about hopes for the new movie. I can’t decide whether this makes me happy or knocks my hopes down yet again. As usual, he says there’s a script being worked on but no actual deal made yet...I’m getting a sense of déjà vu here, but I’m hoping that this isn’t just another round of the yearly XF2 rumors. Instead of my usual pessimistic self, I’m going out on a limb here and I’m going to try and remain hopeful on this. I’m counting on you guys to keep my spirits up! [ Click here to read more ]
