10 Things I Love About Supernatural
February 4th 2009 20:28
Like I said, February is the month of love, so here's the first in a series of "10 Things I Love About _________". Feel free to add your own loves to the list!
1. Sam and Dean.
Well this is a given. I love everything about the Winchesters, from Dean’s sense of humor and self-loathing, to Sam’s kindness and floppy hair. They’ve given up their own lives for the greater good, have lost everything but each other, and are the unsung heroes. They don’t have superpowers or even a home, but they do have a fierce sense of justice, some major hunting skills, and a pretty awesome car (see #3).
2. The chemistry.
I’ve never seen any two actors play brothers better than Jared and Jensen. They’re so much fun to watch, and clearly real life friends as well. Jeffery Dean Morgan as their Dad is great too. I love the family dynamic, and how they’ve all died for each other already. Fantastic casting in this show!
3. The Impala.
I mean, what can you say? She’s a main character! She’s been hit by a semi, banged on with a crowbar, stolen, had her tires slashed, and has encountered more Supernatural Beings that most people. Yet she’s still roarin’ to go! She puts up with the boys’ bickering, practical jokes, music, weapons, fake IDs, angry drives, road trips, and is pretty much the only home they really have.
4. The writing.
Ah the humor and angst. I don’t know if there’s any other show that can make me laugh and cry so much in the same episode. So many quotable quotes…
(Note: It’s also one of my favorite shows to recap. No complicated medical dialogue! Haha)
5. Bobby.
The guy cracks me up. Coming from the Midwest, he reminds me of a lot of…well, just a normal guy. He’s a great father figure for the boys, and nobody rocks the trucker hat like Bobby.
6. The music.
"The Greatest Hits of Mullet Rock." Even better when Sam and Dean decide to sing along.
7. The Supernatural.
It’s all those great urban legends we’ve always heard about in one place! It’s scary, funny, heartbreaking, fantastic, mysterious, exciting, and very well lit.
8. Castiel.
Best entrance of an angel ever. He’s a man of few words, but there’s always something in his eyes. He’s quietly powerful, Heavenly, yet not an angel you want to cross. He may also be one of the few people who’ve been able to get Dean to at least think about the fact that maybe he’s not as worthless as he thinks he is.
9. The hotel rooms.
I once said that I’d love the job of designing and dressing the hotel sets in Supernatural, and that hasn’t changed. These rooms are fantastically gaudy and so crazy sometimes you can’t help but love them. It’s even funnier to see Sam and Dean trying to work in them.
10. The fact that it’s set in the American Midwest.
Finally a show that comes from the same place I do! (I know it’s filmed in Canada, but they do a great job capturing the feel of the Midwest.) Eric Kripke, if you ever need more Huskers stuff, you know who to call.
